Miss Milly Willy Lilly, sat under the oak
Smooth dark skin her voice
Sweet like honey
Urged by her old folk
"You mustn't be delayed"
"Become one's troth right away"
That's all she ever says

But Miss Milly Willy Lilly has other plans
Her ambitions overflow like a pot of porridge
When spilled it sullies her mother's clothes of tradition
She becomes an object of ridicule
To those who believe in virulent gender roles
"Your only purpose is to serve the platter"
Mocked by those of her own, a pitiful sight

Nevertheless, Miss Milly Willy Lilly who sat under oak
Is ready for a challenge
To show those who looked down on her
She is more than just a pretty little flower
