I looked at him stunned
"Why?" I asked him
"She thinks that it is inappropriate to have a girl best friend if you are dating someone" he said
"And what do you think?" I asked
"Well, I think that her opinion is absurd, but she's been cheated on maybe that's why she's like that" he said
"Are you gonna stop being friends with me" I asked while looking at him dead in the eyes.
"Of course not, but we are going to stop hanging out a lot." He said
"So that's why you hung out with me today, this is our last hang out session isn't it" I said
"No" he said and looked away
Jobe soon left after that and I headed upstairs to take my pills
Jobe was lying because after that, me and him never hung out anymore, he was always busy with Bella or football. I was happy for him but I was also sad because my best friend was slipping away from me.
The next weekend my parents and I were invited to dinner at the Bellingham house since Jude and Denise were finally back for the break. We arrived at 6 pm and by 7 pm we were at the dinner table.
"Everyone, I have something to announce" Jobe suddenly said during the dinner
"Well go on then say it" Jude said
"I have a girlfriend and her name is Bella"
Suddenly it turned silent and everyone turned to look at me
"Congratulations" my mum said breaking the awkward silence
After dinner the adults excused themselves and went to drink wine in the kitchen while Jobe went to his room to talk to Bella on the phone.
"Hey" Jude said as he sat beside me on the living room couch
"Hey" I said
"Are you okay" he asked
"Yeah, why wouldn't I be?" I asked
"We all know that you have been in love with Jobe since you two were still in diapers" he said
"Excuse me? I never loved Jobe in that way" I said because it was the truth, I loved Jobe but not in that way. Not in a lovers way but in a brotherly way. I loved Jobe the same way Jude loved him.
"Whatever you say", he said and played with his phone
When we got home, I went to my room, took my pills and was ready to go to sleep when my mum entered my room
"Are you okay" she asked
"Yes, why is everyone asking me that?" I said
"Because you love Jobe, you've always loved him" she said
"Not in that way" I said
"Have you told him yet?"she asked
"No" I said
"You have to tell him" she said
"I don't have to tell him anything, its none of his business." I snapped
"Its important" she said
"What am I supposed to say huh? Oh Jobe, I have cancer and the chances of me living to tell the tale are slim to none, but don't worry I'll probably die in a year so don't worry about me? You know what, leave me alone mum, please leave my room." I said annoyed
"Tell him" my mum said as she left my room
