AN: Yes folks, we're at the end. I have some ending author's notes after the chapter of course. But for now, enjoy.

It was a rather average day in the moment, sunshine faintly streaming through the visiting center's small windows. Birds were heard chirping outside, and people could be seen walking down the sidewalks outside.

A thirteen year old Gumball sits in a plain metal chair, facing a glass window that shielded off from the other side of the room. His fur was slightly unkempt, as he wore a regular orange jumpsuit. At the moment, his paws folded in his lap, as he occasionally glanced around at the opposite side.

Seeing his friend enter the area, he waited patiently for his arrival, picking up the phone just as the other sat down. The eleven year old Darwin repeated the same action on his side. At first, there is nothing but silence, neither knowing what to say.

Gumball hesitates, before finally breaking the ice. "..It's been a while, hasn't it?.."

"..Yeah.." The goldfish couldn't help but feel slightly awkward by this interaction. It had been at least a year since they had spoken, though it felt more like several to him. What could he say?

The cat sighed, noticing his discomfort. "Okay, I think you and I both know how awkward this is right now so I'll just get the elephant out of the room. Yes, I'm holding up okay. No, jail isn't terrible. To be honest, it's.. Different than I thought. I mean yeah some people are kinda jerks, but you learn to kinda live with it, there's nice people too anyway."

He coughed, unsure how exactly to start another conversation. If anything, both of them knew they didn't really want to discuss any more of particular events. "So uh, how's life treating you?"

"..It's been okay." Darwin replied, starting to feel more better at talking. It was starting to feel almost like before all this happened, with nothing to fear or worry about. "School still feels pretty much the same, you know how Simian is."

"She's teaching 7th grade now too?" Gumball couldn't help but snicker at this. It did change the mood slightly, but that was probably for the best.

The goldfish started to break into a smile. "Yeah, I guess she just wants to make our class the worst."

Gumball and Darwin burst into laughter, their worries and awkwardness washing away completely. Other visitors talking to prisoners shared a couple looks, but the two could hardly care.

"Oh! I have something for you." The fish turned around, pulling something out from a backpack. A card was revealed in his hands, which he displayed the front of proudly. "I know your birthday was months ago but I.. Kinda felt bad that you probably didn't receive anything, so, well.. Tada!"

"Aw, Darwin you shouldn't have." Gumball smiled, leaning in slightly to get a better look. "What's inside? Since uh, I can't technically take it. Apparently paper counts as a weapon in here."

"Yeah I figured. It's ok, I'll show you." Darwin opened the card, facing it towards the glass for the other to see. It featured a small drawing of the cat, holding up a birthday cake and blowing out its candles.

Some words were written on the left side, which the other silently read to himself, his grin widening. The fish smiled back at the reaction. "Thanks dude, I love it!"

"Visit time is up!" A prison guard was in the back, her booming voice echoing through the visiting center. Other guards were arriving by now, taking the prisoners one by one back to their cells.

"Ah, that's the cue to get going." Gumball remarked, glancing over at the scenery. He was fairly disappointed how short the visit was, but at the same time, it was fine. It felt as if it was the perfect place to stop for now, at least enough that it was a good interaction.
