She was walking on air and smelling the cloud as she walked past, letting the airy feeling of happiness take her up, up, up into the sky and set her down gently onto a warm, marshmallow. Her heart seemed to thrum much too rapidly yet she had never felt so at ease.

"Amity?" Spoke her girlfriend. "Why aren't you sleeping, love, it's...," She quickly patted around on the nightstand, searching for her phone and looking at the lock screen, "three am."

The pale girl simply smiled. "Couldn't sleep, too much adrenaline."

"Are you alright?"

"Yes," She booped the other's nose, kissing it. "I'm more than okay."

The blush that spread itself on Luz's tan, jocund face was undeniably there. "Oh."

....................

It was the next morning now and Luz felt her whole body jumping with joy at the realization that she had awoken in Amity's arms. Her soft breaths fanning into her ear and her untied, purple, hair assaulting her with an array of different fruit-smelling shampoos.

"Amitttyyyy?" She teased as she turned around in the other's arm, realizing that she had fallen back asleep. She sighed contentedly, just admiring the other's pretty face.

From the hallway, she heard repeated footsteps. "Ami-Who are you?" Odalia shrieked, a look of disgust on her face. "And what the hell are you doing with my daughter?"

Odalia's loud yelling awoke Amity, making her sit up and rub her eyes sleepily. Her eyes widened, mouth parting and cheeks reddened at the realization that her mom was currently standing in the doorway, asking questions. "Mom?"

"What are you doing?"

"This is my girlfriend, Luz." She rubbed at the back of her neck, wincing. "Sorry, I forgot to tell you." She held her breath as she waited for her mother's reaction. They had never spoken about anything other than her having a boyfriend.

"I..No."

"No?"

Luz observed quietly as she curled into herself in the corner. She felt like she was intruding into a private conversation. "I mean no, Amity. You are a Blight for crying out loud! What will my friends think at Blight Industries? What will they say?" She shrieked, brows furrowing.

Odalia jumped as she felt a hand on her shoulder. "What they think is not as important as a daughter that is happy."

"Oh good, Alador, why don't we just destroy our own company image then?"

"Yes, yes we will." He glared, retracting his hand. "Because I love my daughter more than you can ever say."

Odalia huffed as she felt the tears brimming, her arms crossed on her chest. "Fine! You can have your petty divorce but don't think this is the end of this," she turned her gaze toward Amity, pointing hotly, "And you! I will never be okay with this as long as I am your mother."

Amity felt the heat, rising, rising, rising and the ringing in her ears continuing, never ending, without stopping. She felt her eyes brim with the unshed tears, felt her heart break and her breathing stop short, then begin, then stop and begin. She felt the world spinning, she felt herself falling into the arms of the monster who screamed with unrestrained delight.

She felt soft hands, warm hands, circle around her, felt her breathing steady after a few moments, felt herself burrow into the neck of the other. She felt safe here, the monster hadn't gotten to her, she hadn't fallen into its awaiting arms but into the arms of another, much better thing. Person. Luz.

"Thank you," She murmured as she finally came to, looking at both her father and girlfriend. Her mother was nowhere around.
