Masked fears

I wake each morning,
With a heavy heart,
The emptiness within,
Tearing me apart.

Like a puzzle,
Missing a crucial piece,
I long for a feeling,
That brings me release.

The laughter of others,
Falls on deaf ears,
For the emptiness persists,
Drowning out cheers.

The smiles around me,
They seem foreign and fake,
Always on display,
But inside, what's at stake?

I wonder of their struggles,
The battles they may face,
If they're just like me,
Masking fears with grace.

For we all bear burdens,
Too heavy to reveal,
Our pain and our sorrows,
We try so hard to conceal.
