Solitude

In my room,
I sit alone,
With no one here,
To call my own.

My heart yearns,
For a friend to find,
A comforting presence,
Someone warm and kind.

Lost in the shadows,
Amidst the sea of faces,
I wander aimlessly,
Alone in the happiest places.

I watch as others,
Walk in pairs,
Sharing their joys,
And all their cares,

The laughter and the chatter,
Sound like a foreign tongue,
And though I try to fit in,
I can't find where I belong.

The world can be so cruel,
And loneliness can sting,
A sharp and bitter feeling,
That cuts through everything.
