"Memories and time are funny that way. Everyday seems the same until you look back and realize everything is different. You don't know what kind of moment you're in until it has passed."
"Wise words as usual, Miss Iram, no wonder why Sharp loves you."
"I think he loves me for several reasons."
"I believe you're right. What's not to love about you?" He chuckled before leaning back on his hands.
"What about you? Why are you down here?"
"Um..."
"You do realize you can't lie to me?"
You sighed as you tried to gather your thoughts as innocently as possible.
"Well...I was walking the halls and found Sharp speaking to Mr. Salix."
"Oh?"
"They didn't see me, and I didn't want them to, so I snuck off to the undercroft before I was caught."
"-And what was this conversation that you eavesdropped on?"
"I...I'm not sure."
"Not sure?"
"He...He said that Sharp is weak. He said that he couldn't hide the truth from me forever. I don't know what he's talking about, Sharp doesn't hide anything from me."
"Are you sure about that?"
You paused for a moment before shifting your legs and facing Ominis fully.
"What do you mean?"
"We all have secrets, Lutea, even the most innocent Wizards and Witches. Professor Sharp has an...intense past. One with pain and trauma. Do you believe you know everything about him?"
"I...I suppose I didn't think about that."
You sat there silently feeling foolish. You've been with Sharp not even a year, could you really know everything about him? Could he be hiding anything from you now?
"Don't misunderstand, Lutea, I don't think Sharp means any harm if he has secrets but maybe you shouldn't assume you that you know him fully. Things can backfire on you that way. I assume you haven't told him about us?"
"Well...no. There's no reason to."
"Be that as it may, it's still something you haven't told him, so one can only deduct there's a few things about him that there is no reason to tell you. Professor Sharp is a good man- he'll tell you whatever he feels necessary."
"Yes...Yes you're right. Thank you, Ominis. A different perspective always helps."
"Would you like me to give you my guess- if it might make you feel better?"
"Sure."
"I feel he hides his physical pain from you both from age and his injuries. In general he is a proud man and hides it regardless- but for you he makes a bigger effort."
You start to remember the day he seemed more defensive about his leg and the moment he confessed to you that his body isn't what it used to be. It was a silly thing to hide it from you- but it wouldn't be the first time he held back something that just needed to be said.
"What gives you that feeling?"
"Well...I don't know if it's my blindness or my magic, but I tend to feel things from people more than others would. I can somewhat feel his pain and pride, he's a strong man, not to mention a stubborn one."
You snorted at the truth in his comment and started thinking about his words.
"What do you feel when you're around me?"
You saw a small smirk form on his lips before he answered you.
"I feel many things, Lutea, nothing that deserves mentioning though."
"What? That's not fair!"
"We all need our secrets, don't we?"
"Ugh! That's mean."
Ominis chuckled before standing up and offering his hand. When you took it he lifted you up gracefully and gave you a quick squeeze.
"Everything works out in the end, Lutea, you'll see. Don't let a third rate Auror get under your skin."
"You're right...wait, I don't believe I told you too much about Mr. Salix, how do you know about him?"
"I'm shadowing Black, love, that man is a canary when he starts to drink. Besides- I hear many things within these halls. It's getting late, we should probably head to our chambers."
"Would you like me to walk you?"
"No thank you, it's faster if I apparate." He took your hand again and kissed it lightly. "Please don't hesitate to send me an owl or find me if you need someone to talk to. I'm always here for you. Okay?"
"Okay."
"Promise?"
"Yes, father." You teased him.
"Good." He chuckled back.
He took a few steps backwards before closing his eyes and apparating out of sight. You stood there for another moment; looking around and remembering your times together in that room. You made sure the fire above you was put out before taking a breath and apparating to your room.
