Christophe Hector d'Orléans.

How dare he.

How dare he. How dare he. How dare he!

Trying such an audacious claim that Amalie had no blood in her mother's family. The insult that little toad gave made Alastor's blood boil.

Oh, how Alastor wanted to deal with that man in the most horrible of ways...

But he couldn't, as much as he yearned for it deep within the marrow of his bones, now was not the time. So instead, he went for his passive choice. A kind choice.

One that Christophe should even be lucky that he was about to receive, though he did nothing to deserve it. He never had.

Heading up to the office, Alastor took his cell phone from his desk and dialled Amalie's grandfather. The man was currently in another country doing business, but Alastor cared little about time zones right now.

The man answered promptly, but then Jean was always good with that. "Alastor, is something wrong?"

Alastor didn't even let the man finish, that's how angry he was. "Yes, sad to say, Jean, there is. It has to do with your son."

The older man gave an exasperated sigh. "What's he done now?"

"It's not what he's done, but what he will do, that's what I'm calling you. Coming after me is of little consequence, but that egotistical little brat is going after my daughter, wanting to test her lineage. Saying she isn't Marie's daughter."

The silence was what greeted Alastor for a solid minute. "What?"

"Exactly," Alastor said almost elated that this man agreed as he had but then added with a sharp tone of warning. "Keep Christophe in line, Jean, or I will."

Jean did not answer.

"I truly care not for your son," he continued. "But if he goes on like this, I may just do something he'll regret. And he will regret it."

"He didn't tell this to your face, did he?"

"Oh, heaven's no!" If he did, he'd be dead. "I just thought to let you know about this since it was Jeremiah who told me. I had no clue he was in the FBI, the secrets we keep are truly fascinating, isn't it?"

"You're angry."

"What gave that away?" Alastor smile grew as he spoke in a rather taunting manner. "After everything that's happened to my little girl, of course, I'd be angry. In fact, I'm furious. That man you call a son dared to question Amalie's paternity after what your daughter did to me. You're lucky I let any of you see Amalie at all."

Jean did seem remotely phased, but then he knew what his daughter had done, and could never see Marie in the same light again. He had at least hoped she would never do such a thing but... Marie was more like her mother and brother rather than her sister and father.

Such a disappointment from such an affluent family.

"But that's all water under the bridge is it not?" he continued. "Besides, you were telling me you wished to thank the family who saved your granddaughter, well I know that finding a new school for the remaining children has become rather difficult, including a little girl who's from that very family, and who was the one that told me about the one responsible, and I think I know of a way that you can help them. Wouldn't you agree?"
