Special Chapter: Ruby's Birthday

Start from the beginning

Back to the present, I had four things to do: take Ruby out to eat some lunch, explore the weapon stands, check out the local museum, and take a hike up the Fu Kanfa Mountain Trail. Sounds simple enough!

I take Ruby to a nice restaurant and we get seated at a table. A waiter gives us water and some menus. I ordered some Mistralian sweet & sour pork with a side of fried rice and vegetables. Ruby ordered chicken empanadas with a side of Valesian pasta. The waiter wrote it down and left. We had a nice chat about our teams and how we can continue to be the best huntsmen there is. After a few minutes, the waiter came back with our food and set it down in front of us. We ate and enjoyed it very much. Once the two of us finished an hour later, I paid the bill and we left.

Half an hour after the lunch, Ruby wanted to take a look at the weapon stands and I agreed to it. In one booth, a seller had swords of all shapes and sizes. There were short swords, longswords, broadswords, katanas, sabres, cutlasses, scimitars, claymores, and so much more. How did I know what types they were? It was because of Ruby. She knows her swords well, due to her being a weapons expert. There were also other booths that had axes, daggers, maces, hammers, rapiers, spears, and even a shovel. That last one is a bit weird, but I'll let it slide. All of that looking took up another hour so far.

Another half hour goes by as we make our way to a museum detailing about the history of Haven Academy. We were able to get an insight on how Haven was formed after the Great War eighty years ago, the different kinds of initiations and tests that the Huntsmen and Huntresses had to go through, the previous professors that came before the cowardly Lionheart, and we were also able to view some portraits of some teams that graduated from Haven. On one of those portraits, I saw my mom and her team. I pointed it out to Ruby and she was surprised and excited by this, stating that my mom looks cool and confident. I rubbed her hair and smiled as we moved on. Our tour ended after another hour.

Our last stop is the Fu Kanfa Mountain Trail. It's said that it is a popular activity for couples to do while they enjoy the grand view as they hike up the mountain. Ruby and I started the hike at the base of the mountain. We were holding hands as we saw the greenery and the rock formations that make up the side of Fu Kanfa. After about two hours of hiking up, we got to the top, where we could see the entirety of Mistral from up here. A cable car made its way up to where we are, and it opened its doors, allowing us to enter. We sat down together and rode the car down. Ruby laid her head on my left shoulder and I laid my head on top of hers as we interlocked fingers in blissful silence.

*Evening*

It was now six in the evening and me and Ruby had our fun outside. Now it was time to go back. She's going to be so surprised when we get back.

After a few minutes of walking, we made it back to the house. She opened the door and saw that the lights were turned off. She flicked the switch on and...

Everyone Else: "SURPRISE!!!"

Ruby was shocked to see everyone. I went and hugged her from behind, wrapping my arms around her waist, and causing her to blush.

Azure: "Happy birthday, Strawberry!"

Ruby: (smiles) "Thanks, Cookie! Did you plan all of this?"

Azure: "I did not..." I let go of Ruby and pointed at an approaching Yang. "She did."

Yang: "Happy birthday, Ruby!" She hugged her little sister.

Ruby: "Thanks, Yang! You planned all of this?"

Yang: "Yeah! I had some help from Qrow and the others, and even Azure. I told him to keep you busy during all of this." Ruby started tearing up with joy.
