If you wanted something done you would have to do it yourself, if you needed help you needed to figure out how to get yourself out. Growing up, that's what was drilled inside my head, I was always alone so I didn't need help when I needed it, no one could bother themselves with me so if I needed something done I would have to do it. I was alone with myself, and no one else.

So, of all people, why is this man here?

Niklaus had appeared before me when I needed him the most, as if my knight in shining armor. "Did you come here to help me?" I asked as he moved me, placing himself between me and the other vampires.

"...Well, that isn't exactly wrong, but.." After letting his eyes swim in a moment of rare hesitation, Niklaus cleared his throat. "That's not important right now. Are you hurt?" He questioned, his red eyes scanning me for any injuries.

"I'm fine, the seal you put on me is still in place." I reassured him.

"I see, I'm glad you're alright." His features softened as relief set in. I couldn't believe my eyes when a warm smile appeared on his face.

I really don't understand him, he keeps doing things for me and taking care of me as if we're on equal footing. I don't get why he's doing any of this, why he's the one here right now..."You're a strange one." He didn't seem to hear my quiet whisper, but it was better that way. I didn't want him to know how conflicted he made me feel and I didn't want to know the answers to my questions about him.

Eventually, Niklaus raised his noble face and shot a glare at the thuggish vampires. "Begone. He belongs to me!" A moment ago, they were at least able to talk normally but now, they let out strange laughs, as if they'd jumped off the deep end, their eyes vacant and unfocused.

"Consumed by the scent of blood, huh?" Niklaus utters before pointing at the mad men and waved his hand side to side. The moment he did, a powerful gust of wind blasted them into a wall, knocking them out.

His magic was remarkable, perhaps he used some of his magic to get here. "Your magic is quite..." He cuts me off, looking over this shoulder. "Not magic, we call this our talent." Niklaus corrects softly, his hands falling to his sides. "I wish I could use it," I mumbled, looking back at the two unconscious vampires.

"So you desire strength? I saw you drive them off a moment ago. You seemed to be rather used to combat." I try not to look fazed by his statement, as I was used to combat. In order to assassinate the Blood King I would have to undergo hard training, including combat.

"My town wasn't the safest, so I had to learn some type of defense." The Blood King hummed as he folded his arms over his chest. "I see.." Before he could ask more about the matter, I quickly changed the subject.  "So, why did those vampires lose their sanity like that?"

"The perfume wore off." He tells me, making me raise a brow. "How did you know about the perfume?" I questioned, but the other male just gave me a shrug. "It's basic knowledge."

Was it Niklaus's doing who told Matthew to put perfume on me, or am I thinking to deeply of this?

"It was really stupid of you to run off on your own, and foolish. Did you not think it was dangerous for the High Selene to go walking off on his own in a town full of vampires." He scolds.

"You're right, it wasn't very wise. I was completely at fault here, thank you for helping me." At my apology, Niklaus looked at me surprised wide-eyed. "I just apologized and thanked you. Why are you surprised?"

"Because I hadn't expected you of all people to be so...forthcoming."

"I simply followed human manners." I frowned and crossed my arms."I can't understand your actions." He mumbled. "Why did you leave Matthew?" Niklaus asked, "Were you thinking about escaping?" If I tell him a sloppy lie, he'll trust me less.
