"Police are baffled by the escalating murders and disappearances. Theories range from a vicious new gang to a wildly active serial killer... Reporting live, Dawn Chubai. CNN."
Arms crossed over to her chest, Irene watched the new reporters showing the crime scenes that the police officers were investigating. Carlisle's face was especially grave knowing the truth behind these attacks and the consequences it could have on the entire coven, or worse, on the entire city of Forks.
"It's getting worse. We're going to have to do something," Carlisle said, switching the TV off as Tony and Bella walked into the room.
The chaos that struck Seattle was heartbreaking, yet that was not what truly concerned Irene. If this chaos continued, the existence of the vampire kind could be revealed in broad daylight, which the Volturi would never allow. They valued secrecy highly, and if threatened, they would not hesitate to handle the problem themselves. This was not in Irene's favor at all.
"It takes more than one of our kind to cause the damage they're reporting," Jasper said. "Quite a few more. They're undisciplined, conspicuous..."
"Newborns," Irene concluded.
"What, like new vampires?" Bellas asked.
"In their first few months after the change," Tony specified. "During this time, the only thing we want, the things we crave the most is blood. The need is so strong that we don't care if we would be discovered as long as our hunger is fed."
Jasper's eyes unfocused for an instant, as if recalling past events. "That's when we're at our most uncontrollable, vicious, insane with thirst."
"Something to look forward to," Emmett told Bella with a smirk.
"No one has trained these newborns, but this isn't random," Jasper continued.
"Someone's creating an army," Carlisle figured as Jasper nodded.
Emmett stood up from the couch, enthusiastic. "Oh, now we definitely going to Seattle."
For a while, he had been urging Carslile to take matters into their own hands. Emmett was quite a simple man. If he could fight, he was happy, which clashed with the seriousness of the situation. If this army of vampires kept growing, and a newborn vampire at that, it was only a matter of time before the whole city of Seattle fell. And if it gives ideas to some other crazy vampire, it may be the start of a chain of horrors.
"They've been created to fight someone and you're the only clan even close to Seattle," Tony said. "This can't be a coincidence."
"Regardless of who are they were may, if we don't put a stop to them, the Volturi will," Carlisle added. "I'm surprised they've let it go on this long."
"Maybe they're behind it. In Italy, I read Aro's mind... He wants me and Alice to join him... Our gifts would shore up his power. He knows we'd never choose him as long as our family is still alive."
