"Seems like you made up with the little human," Irene said.
It was the weekend and the twins were home. Irene was reading a book as Tony was writing a thesis. For years, he was releasing scholarly theses on different topics involving nuclear sciences under a fake name. Few of his works were even studied in school.
During the whole week, Irene had not missed the fact that her brother and Bella behaved like they were closer than ever. He would even visit her at her place and stay there to talk with her for hours. Apparently, Charlie, Bella's dad, had even been fond of Tony and liked having him around. Tony would also converse a lot with Charlie and ask him for fishing tips. The Goodwin boy had tried fishing a few times but was never successful. Charlie even offered to teach Tony a few tricks.
The Goodwin and the Cullens were in very good terms and Irene had grown used, even appreciative of their company. At school, Alice was the person Irene would talk to the most outside of her brother. She would also have conversations with Edward and Jasper, but as Alice was naturally the most talkative one, it made it easier to converse with her. It had shocked the students of Forks high to see Irene, who was deemed desirable but untouchable, willing to talk to someone. But it also somehow made sense that her first friends would be a Cullen. To her, it was not often she got to meet benevolent vampires. She finally could create real and true bonds without having to lie about who she was.
Though, she would rather maintain a certain distance with people. It was the best option if they ever find them again. However, it seemed Tony was not sharing the same thoughts. She trusted his analytical skills, which, similar to Alice, could he considered a premonition gift (not on the same extant as Tony, based his predictions on probabilities, whilst Alice's visions were a lot more concrete). According to him, they should remain in Forks. But Irene was not as certain as him. The Volturi knew of the Cullens. They even desired to acquire two of their members. If the twins stay too long, it would be like surrendering themselves. If fact, it may be better to leave now. With the attack in Seattle that was clearly made by vampires, it was a matter of time before the Volturi stepped in. And Seattle was close to Forks. It was not good. And if Tony gets too attached, it was worse.
"Yeah, Bella apologized for the confusion. We're cool now."
Irene frowned at his words. "You're 'cool now'? You've forgiven her too easily. Must I remind you that she's visiting Jacob again today? The boy who clearly stated his affection towards her."
Irene had had a look in Bella's friends' minds. She wanted to understand why everyone seemed so fond of the girl and her friends, the people who spent the most time with her (as she could not meet Charlie since she had no good reason to), would surely have the answer to her question. However, she was quite surprised that the only one who seemed genuine about Bella was Angela. She and perhaps her boyfriend Eric were the only ones that could be called 'friends'. Jessica was mostly jealous of Bella's success with boys and only remained in the friends group because Angela and Mike were. And as for Mike, he was clearly and very into Bella and had tried several times to date her but never succeeded. Mike's memories were a mine of information. Irene got to learn that Bella's fling with Jacob was not recent at all. Yet, she still got closer to Tony while keeping the shifter around. And if infuriated Irene.
