Chapter 38: Retribution

Start from the beginning

The next few minutes passed in silence, save for the low hum of Sincline's engines. Curving over a mountain, Sincline angled his ship down and pulled up inches above the surface of a lake. "Three minutes till contact," he reported, glancing back at the three Ace Ops. "How do we want to play this?"

"I doubt Jacque's going to go down without a fight," Marrow agreed, and Harriet punched her fists together.

"Personally? I hope he does," Harriet stated, getting up and activating a pair of foldable robotic exosuit arms that latched onto her arms with a hiss of flickering lightning.

Clover nodded, and Sincline dipped his head toward the viewport. "We're here."

All eyes turned to the screen, and they found themselves staring at the massive form of Schnee Manor. Located atop a rocky hill above a waterfront, Schnee Manor had a long driveway with three pillars holding up the Schnee family crest. With a wing at either side of the main section and four massive pillars, the Manor easily eclipsed its surroundings. At the back, though, was a place all too familiar to Sincline: the Courtyard.

"That's the bastard's place," Harriet muttered, eyeing the Manor

"That's the bastard's place," Harriet muttered, eyeing the Manor. "Still... why aren't any defenses activated? Can't they see us?"

"Not visually," Sincline replied, glancing back at her as he slowed the ship to a halt. "My ship has a naturally dark color scheme, and since I cut my lights, no one can see us. That..." He pulled up a screen, revealing a holographic blueprint of the Manor. "And the Manor doesn't have any defenses except for roughly one hundred Atlesian drones and a skeleton crew of a dozen Faunus staff."

"One hundred?" Marrow whined, resting his boomerang-like weapon across his shoulders. "That's not enough—"

Harriet elbowed him in the ribs, and Clover stomped on his foot, effectively shutting him up. "What about Jacque?" she asked, turning her attention back to Sincline.

Standing up, Sincline twisted his wrist, and the holographic projection of the Manor disappeared and reformed between him and the Ace Ops. "From what I can tell, he's in the dining room," he reported, his eyes narrowing at the glowing dot that represented Weiss's... father. "It looks like his wife is in her room and is the only other occupant in the house aside from the guards and staff."

"Sounds easy enough," Clover muttered, examining the 3D model of the Manor and barely concealing his awe at Sincline's capabilities. It's official, he thought. Aliens get all the good toys. "Looks like the only problems will be the guards."

"Come on, we deal with worse on the training grounds," Harriet replied, waving a hand dismissively before examining the Manor once more. "Looks like the most direct route is through the front door. The Dining Hall is just to the left."

"Maybe, but it has two entrances," Sincline pointed out, gesturing to the digitalized diagram of the Dining Hall. "Even if we break through the drones, there's still enough of them that an alarm could be raised. And if that happens..." He trailed off, but the others caught on. As unlikely as it was, there was a slim chance Jacque could escape....
