No Escape

A nice stone dwelling sitting on a ledge over the ocean,
I could hear the waves crash as the fog rolled in,
Lower level windows are sealed, but I can imagine the spray on my face,
I stuck out my tongue and sampled the salty taste.

The seagulls are all squawking with calls of love,
Riding the updrafts and thermals in a sultry dance above,
They want not, need not, in their two step with life,
Each one promenades with the wind, deciding to take her for a wife.

I climbed the stairs up to the second floor,
The designing never finished, I can always think of so much more,
Marble fireplaces unlike the granite ones below,
Tile ripped out, marble added to the bath and floors.

This is where I open the windows and allow the ocean air to rush in,
I need to cleanse my soul, while hearing all my sins,
The wind never tires, it replays my life over and over again,
In this dance your partner and the music never does change.

If hell has a basement, it is where my soul will remain,
For destroying the truth and bringing the innocent so much pain,
Yes I know that my soul could not withstand an inspection,
It has been such a long time since seeing my reflection.

Watching the seagulls dance and listening to the ocean's roar,
I seek out an existence moving from window to window and from floor to floor,
From the second level I contemplate the jagged rocks below along the shore,
But escape isn't to be had, haha, I've tried this a million times before.
