"Yeah I'm there, you don't have to worry" you said as you got of your car after parking it. A few minutes ago you had been worried about if you would be able to reach the taekwondo academy just in time before the class ends as you were stuck in a really bad traffic jam.
You had called Jungkook to inform the teacher and keep the children inside until you don't reach. Fortunately you were only five minutes late and a staff person stood with the children outside.
"Who are you ma'am?" She asked curiously not knowing you.
"She is our aunty. She lives with us. We can go with her." Ria told her that they were safe with you and you passed a smile before holding their hands and taking them to the car.
"Aunty do you have a car seat? Daddy says Yejun has to sit in a car seat." Ria asked when you reached the car in the parking space.
"Yes Ria your dad got it installed on the weekend. I'll be picking you up everyday now."
"Daddy said you have a new job starting Monday and you won't be home in the afternoon but he'll be there"
"That's right. Today was the last day of my old job and I begin my new one on Monday."
"Aunty but what do you do?" She asked you as you made her sit inside the car before going to the other side and putting Yejun in his seat.
"I'm a financial analyst" you tell her going to the driver seat after making sure they're well secured.
"I'll study a lot so I can understand what that means" She tells you once again capturing your heart with her childish wonder.
"I'm sure you will." You tell her before focusing on getting the car on the road.
"Aunty can we go to the park please? We didn't go yesterday also..." Yejun said making a cute face in order to persuade you.
"Okay we can but only for a short while..." you tell him and he squeals with joy.
You try your best to avoid traffic filled areas and rather go through a longer way even that takes lesser time. Yejun happily threw his hands in the air when you parked near the park.
He ran inside with Ria as soon as you put him down on the ground. You had to run behind them even though you couldn't match their pace.
They took turns on the slide while you sat down on the bench to take a breath. It was still your second day and you experienced mild cramps but nothing too uncomfortable. You texted Jungkook to let him know you were in the park. He informed you he would try to get home by eight.
You glanced at the children playing merrily and got distracted by social media. Not even a minute had passed before you heard Yejun crying. Ria shouted asking you to come. You ran as fast as you could and held Yejun in your arms. Ria had picked him up when he fell off the jungle gym. He hit his head on the rods and sustained a wound.
You hugged him and caressed him when a nearby parent told you to take him to the hospital and gave you the directions. You walked with him to the car while Ria followed you.
You tried to put him in his car seat when he kept saying mama and daddy in his cries. You felt utterly helpless as you were none of the person he demanded for. Getting inside the car you called Jungkook on the stereo system. He didn't pick up at once, might have thought it wasn't urgent. When you called him again it might have occurred to him the matter was serious.
"Yejun hit his head at the park. He fell off the jungle gym. I'm taking him to the hospital" you inform him and he doesn't says anything, Yejun's loud cries reach him as he still kept crying for his parents. Ria sat beside him trying to gently coax him.
"Yejun listen to what aunty y/n says. I'll be there at the hospital in a few minutes. I'll come as soon as possible. You know how far my office is right?"
"It hurts" he shouts.
"The doctor will put medicine on it. Alright? If you cry so loudly it'll hurt more"
"Y/N stay calm. He'll be alright. I'm on my way." He cut the call probably because he was already in his car.
When you reached the hospital you took Yejun inside holding him in your arms looking at the blood gleaming on his forehead.
"Yejun you're gonna be okay. We're at the hospital you'll be fine honey. I'm right here." You told him caressing his back.
He was still thrashing in your arms but you managed to take him to the emergency room. A nurse laid him on the bed and cleaned his wound.
"He'll need stitches and a tetanus shot" The doctor said just when Jungkook arrived behind you. You sighed in relief looking at him. He walked over to Yejun and caressed his head telling him he'll be fine.
The doctor came with the stitching equipment when Yejun screamed again scared. Jungkook held his hands down but he kicked his legs in the air. Jungkook looked at you when you quickly grabbed his legs in place.
"You're gonna be fine. You're my brave little man. I know it hurts but this will help you heal..." Jungkook tried his best to assure him.
The doctor cut the thread away and Yejun started to calm down.
"my sweet little boy... I'm so sorry... I shouldn't have sat down there." You say when he looks around at the unfamiliar surroundings.
"No I was not careful. Ria noona told me to climb slowly but I didn't listen." He said in a very low sad voice. You kiss his hand hearing his words how he blames himself for his injury while you could only blame yourself.
"Now I need you to be a good boy and let the doctor give you the injection." Jungkook said standing near him holding his hand as another doctor administered the injection. The doctor tried to distract him by talking and smoothly got the job done.
"Wow Yejun you're so brave... so strong.." Jungkook boosted his kid's morale as he was being given some cute stationery items by the nurses and a candy.
After they handed you a prescription you came outside the hospital.
"I'll ask the driver to take my car back home. Could you drive?"
"Yeah sure" you said.
Jungkook sat beside Yejun's seat at the back with Ria on his other side while you drove quietly as Yejun dozed off and Ria told him about other things that happened during the day.
Jungkook made Yejun eat a few bites before putting him to bed after giving him the medicines. Ria completed her homework after having dinner which you served her and went to bed after a hard day too.
Jungkook came outside closing the door of Yejun's room leaving it slightly open and then sat on the sofa.
"I know he's saying it was his mistake. The truth is it was me... I got distracted for a moment thinking they'll be fine and then he fell..." you couldn't control yourself as you broke down into tears. You covered your face with your palms your elbows resting on your thighs.
"Hey it was not your fault. Kids fall and hurt themselves all the time. We got hurt a lot too in all sorts of ways. It's okay it's life... If he doesn't falls he won't learn to get up" Jungkook said hugging you closely as you wiped your tears and snot with the back of your hand.
"Still I was careless..." you tell him pulling yourself away.
"If blaming yourself brings you peace then keep doing it. It's no one's fault. I could slip and fall on the floor would it make sense if I say the floor is not good. What matters is he's safe he's fine."
"I didn't knew what to do... when he kept asking for his parents I didn't knew what to do. He was so scared and in pain and I was confused. As it turns out I'm just some aunty to him after all.
In such times of fear and distress he misses his mother and even though I'm there I can't fill her place..." you cried again failing to control yourself.
"No..." Jungkook whispered caressing your back as he sat beside you.
"It hurts Jungkook. I love these children so much. I don't consider them someone's else's even for a moment I consider them mine all the time but yet I can't call them mine..."
