Ironic enough, Aurora never really was that into school spirit. The only reason she joined activities and sports was because of friends - more specifically Caroline.
So as she stood in front of her mirror in her cheerleading outfit she sighed. After losing her aunt and uncle she just didn't feel the same excitement about cheerleading as she used too.

"Everything okay?" Jenna asked leaning against the doorframe of her daughters bedroom. Aurora turned around and faked a smile, "Yeah of course it is. Today's the big football game and Caroline is expecting me to be there with a big smile on my face and all I can think about is ..."
"... your aunt and uncle."
"Yeah." Aurora muttered causing her to let out a soft sarcastic chuckle "god, why do I keep getting like this? I'm supposed to be the strong one. They would want me to be there for Elena and Jeremy and you. They would expect that of me."
"Hey, where is this coming from?" Jenna asked concerned, her demeanor changing as she rushed over to sit on her daughters bed next to her. "Last I remembered you're just a kid who suffered a great loss. You shouldn't hold this much responsibility and Miranda and Grayson wouldn't want you to hold this much of a burden. I'm the adult okay? Let me deal with Jeremy, Elena and myself. You live your life, hell start over if you have to. Do whatever you have to do to make you happy. Just don't change too much okay? I happen to love you just the way you are."

Aurora accepted the hug from her mother sniffling back her tears.
"Your right, your right. I don't know why I got so emotional all of a sudden there."
"It's okay Rory, there's no reason to apologize for showing your emotions..." her eyes landed on the book on the girls bed causing her to swallow dryly "where did you get that?"
"The book? I found it on my nightstand. Why do you know who its from?"
"No, but I know it was your fathers from high school."
"What?" Aurora's eyes widened in surprise
"Yeah. I can tell because the outside of the book are colored with pink highlighter, I did that in school one day to annoy him... you said you found it on your nightstand?"
"Yeah, why?" Aurora asked
"Because that book was lost years ago and your father was devastated it was his favorite original copy. I guess some how some way it found its way back to you."
"Talk about strange." Aurora frowned causing Jenna to smile sympathetically before standing up and giving her daughter one last departing glance before disappearing and leaving her daughter alone in her room, her confused thoughts on how the Salvatore's had her father's old book was soon interrupted by her phone ringing. She glanced at it to see Caroline's name on her screen.

"Hello?"
"Where are you?"
"Caroline?" Aurora questioned
"Of course its me, who else would it be? Now why aren't you at the game yet?"
"I'm leaving my house now. I got caught up talking to my mom." The girl gathered her stuff and headed out the door only to run into the one and only Damon Salvatore.
"Caroline, I'm going to have to call you back."
"Don't you dare -" Caroline began but was cut off by her friend hanging up on her.

"Is this a bad time?"
"Actually yes it is, I was on my way out to the school..."
"Ah yes, your cheerleading at the big game aren't you?"
Aurora furrowed her eyebrows at him tugging her cheerleading skirt down further under his glance.
"Yeah.. Anyways, can I help you with something? If you were looking for Elena you're out of luck she already left."
"No, I was looking for you."
"Oh." Aurora replied genuinely surprised "Why?"
"I just wanted to make sure you my witnessed my little trick last night."
"Your trick?" Aurora stated surprised causing Damon to glance at the book she was holding knowingly causing realization to hit her
"Your the one who stole my dad's book."
"Nope, borrowed it. And technically it was my copy first. But after my little brother told me that was the one book that you wanted out of all the options you could've chosen I knew there had to be some reason behind it."
"Okay firstly, that's not called a trick, that's called a felony. Secondly, there's no way that it was your copy first. Your what like twenty - twenty five? There's no way you were alive then and thirdly, even if there was a reason that reason is none of your business."
