Breaking Dawn (part three: Ruby pov)

"Benjamin, Tia we're leaving." He told them but Edward spoke up.

"And where will you go? What makes you think they'll be satisfied with Alice? What's to stop them from going after Benjamin next? Or Seiya , Kate or Zafrina or anyone else with a gift? Anyone they want." At the mention of Seiya's name I automatically wrapped my arms around her protectively and she looked around surprised before her eyes shifted to me. "Their goal isn't punishment it's power. It's acquisition. Carlisle might not ask you to fight but I will. For the sake of my family. But also for yours. And for the way you want to live." Edward finished looking around with determination on his face. It was quiet as everyone took in his words. Jacob stood and looked around at us vampires.

"The packs will fight. We've never been afraid of vampires."

"We will fight." Tanya said next.

"This won't be the first time I fought a kings rule." Garret stepped up, looking like it was just another battle for him.

"We'll join you." Benjamin said.

"No." Amun said to him.

"I will do the right thing Amun. You may do as you please." He told him and I smiled. I liked Benjamin, he didn't let Amun run over him, even though I suspect he knows why Amun created him in the first place.

"We will stand with you." Senna said next.

"So will we." Maggie said from the Irish coven. I looked around as others nodded their heads, their faces growing determined.

"That didn't take much." Stephan said to Vladimir and several of us looked to him with annoyed looks.

"Let's hope it doesn't come to that." Edward said looking at everyone.

"We'll see." Alistar said before walking out the room. I rolled my eyes before looking to Seiya, who just shook her head. I watched as others started talking among themselves and Bella came over to talk to Seiya. While they talked I went over to Edward and spoke lowly to him.

"You don't think they would really come after Seiya do you? I mean compared to others, hers isn't that strong. Didn't you say he already has a defensive talent vampire like her?" I said to him.

"Hers is strong and it's a defensive talent never the less. He could add her to his guard and use her as some sort of danger detector. He would find some sort of use for her." Edward replied.

"Edward's right Ruby. There's no such thing as lesser or greater ability in our world. Each person's ability is different even if they're similar. All who has a gift is considered valuable to him." Carlisle said laying a hand on my shoulder.

"Like I said it's power he wants and he won't care who he has to go through." Edward said and I shook my head.

"No. I'm not going to let him take her from me." I said frowning at them.

"Then you'll have to fight. Are you with me?" Edward asked and I looked from him to Carlisle as they waited for my response.

"To protect my mate and my goddaughter of course I am." I state, smiling at Edward with a nod and he grinned.

"So not just for the sake of the whole family then?" Edward said grinning more.

"Hey I can only save so many, I'm not super woman." I joked rolling my eyes, making Edward laugh and Carlisle chuckled, rubbing my back in a father like way. I glanced at him briefly and smiled. He really did seem like a parent. I'm pretty glad he's my vampire father.

I looked back at Edward to see him looking at me with a smile as read my thoughts. Do you think he knows? I asked Edward as an earlier thought occurred to me.
