Part of him wanted to go ahead and pull his siblings out of reach from the Jin's, so their conversation is not heard, but he also worried about how this might effect his shijie in the future if he were to choose the passive approach.
Wei Wuxian bit his lip in anticipation and continued to frantically search his mind for a proper resolve.
He couldn't handle going back to Lotus Pier right now, the idea sent a wave a nausea through him.
"Don't bother asking him that. He's already engaged!" someone else responded.
"Really? From what family? She must be beautiful and an accomplished cultivator! Right?!" he asked Jin Zixuan.
"Don't bring this up again, it's not important," Jin Zixuan responded.
Wei Wuxian could taste blood in his mouth from his newly split lip. He remained silent and panicked.
"Not important?!" Jiang Cheng yelled after a moments silence.
Wei Wuxian only panicked more. He didn't want Jiang Cheng to get in a fight in his place! He would be sent home early and they'd all really be in trouble then.
Everyone close enough to listen to the conversation froze and turned to the two groups who stared daggers at each other. "Is it so hard to understand what I said? If it's unimportant, then it's unimportant," the Jin heir clarified.
Wei Wuxian could feel the anger coming off of Jiang Cheng in waves. He could see the devastated look on his shijie's face.
He had to do something.
"Jin Zixuan, it's rude to call someone unimportant, even if your tiny brain won't accept the feelings you have for my shijie. Please refrain from insulting her further."
Passive aggressive. That had to work, right?
Jin Zixuan scoffed. "What about her is meant to satisfy me? I have no regard for her in the slightest."
I'm trying to be a little passive here! Don't tick me off!
Jiang Cheng's fists clenched, and it made Wei Wuxian refocus his attention.
He breathed a shaky breath before looking at the Jin heir. All he wanted to do was punch this guy, but he convinced himself to hold his restraint.
Shijie loves him, and they will have a child together, I can't lose my temper.
"If you are unhappy, then discuss it with your own parents, do not drag my shijie into this. As for satisfying you, it's not her job to do that, so I suggest you work it out for yourself." Wei Wuxian crossed his arms, mostly to keep his slightly elevated rage calm.
Jin Zixuan opened his mouth to respond, but was interrupted.
"Enough," a calm, yet sharp voice called.
Everyone turned and paled. The color on Jin Zixuan's face must have changed colors at least three times before settling on a slight green tint. "Arrogance and bullying is forbidden," Lan Wangji stared daggers at the Jin heir. He had heard the entire conversation and decided to intervene. "You will see Shufu later for punishment."
Wei Wuxian smiled. "Lan Zhan!" he cheered. Even the mere glance of the Lan brought comfort to Wei Wuxian. He knew that Lan Wangji would uphold the rules and ensure the proper punishment would be given. This might not have gone the way it was originally supposed to, but he supposes that it won't change too much. This way, him and his siblings can stay in the Cloud Recesses, but Jin Zixuan still gets the hit to his ego that he needed.
No one likes being scolded by the Second Jade of Lan. It is an excruciatingly uncomfortable experience.
Lan Wangji turned to Wei Wuxian as he approached him.
