Hermione was taken aback, but instead of backing off, she put an arm over my shoulder. "When you mean by love....." Hermione said warily but I shook my head. "A friend love....." I replied choking on my tears again.
"Liz...." Hermione said again. I looked up. "Just promise....that you're going to keep holding on. No matter how tough it gets." I nodded. But deep down I knew a couple things Hermione never did.
He's not coming back.
And he doesn't care.
Because no matter how many tears were shed, no matter how much I cared,
he wasn't going to come back.
Back to the Present
I wiped the tears that I had wasted. Just over nothing! Why was I holding onto something that wasn't real, that was all in my head?
Jake held me by the waist and whispered "I know…..I know……" as he gave my temple a kiss. He helped me up and guided me down the street. He suddenly stopped in front of a house. It had a bright red door with a gold lion head knocker. I smiled. It reminded me of the house colours.
"Were your parents Gryfindors?" I asked. "Yeah, my dad was. Looks like I took after him! My mum was a Hufflepuff, and the same is with my sister." he said as he knocked on the door. I heard the pattering of feet. A girl, around thirteen answered the door, in jeans and a sweater. It was so normal and laid back.
She then yelled "JAKE!!" and tackled onto him, giving him a huge hug. Jake smiled and put her down. He then introduced me. "Hey, long time no see lil' sis. Anyway, Lexi, meet Elizabeth, or Liz. Liz meet my little sister Alexis, or Lexi, who clearly missed me!" he said.
Alexis, Lexi then turned to me. "So you're Elizabeth? Jake couldn't stop talking about you….he showed me a couple pictures of you and you're soooo much prettier in person!!" she said as her hazel eyes sparkled. She didn't have dirty blond hair like her brother, but instead had it in a bright chestnut brown.
I looked past her and she finally said "Come on in, mom and dad are in the kitchen. They'll be so happy to see you guys!" She grabbed my hand and brought me in enthusiastically. I went in and looked around. It had a traditional feel to it, and it was homey. Jake and I walked in and I saw two figures in the kitchen. Jake looked at me and gave me nod and a reassuring smile. Jake then walked in holding by the hand as we both stepped into the light.
"Jake! Is this Elizabeth! I wasn't expecting you two! But still, hi!" the woman said as she hugged both of us. She reminded me of my aunt. It was Jake's mom. I smiled and said hello while I shook hands with his father. We sat down as they handed us a cup of tea and we explained the wedding and what had happened.
"They actually ATTACKED you at the wedding?!" Mrs. Douglas said flabbergasted. I nodded and continued "None of us were expecting it. What's even worse is that they've infiltrated the ministry. It doesn't look too good right now."
"Well I'm not suprised." Mr Douglas interuppted and we all looked up at him. "Well think about it. Whoever was there at the wedding must've have been wanted dead. You-Know-Who is going to go after some people, and have the wizarding world searching for them." Mr. Douglas said pushing back his reading glasses.
"Who? Who would he want dead?" Jake questioned not getting it. "Potter and his friends. Parts of the Order. Elizabeth here might soon have a price over her head. It won't be safe, and I doubt you two want to put yourselves in any danger." his father said sadly.
I looked into my tea as I stirred the tea spoon around and around and around again. The spoon kept clinking against the mug, as my mind went into its worry mode.
Would I actually drag Jake down into this? A path of destruction? I hoped I wouldn't, but I didn't want Jake to pay that price. The nightmare I had a couple nights ago was coming back to me, and I shuddered.
"Don't worry sweetheart, it isn't your fault." Jake said as he put his arm across my shoulder. His mother put her hand across the table and squeezed my own. "I know you two will be safe. If anything comes up, I think I know where you two can go." she said as her mind went into thought.
Safety? Where? No where was going to be safe in a couple weeks. Unless you count underground and in the middle of nowhere, then no where was going to be safe. Voldemort would do everything in his power to capture me and kill me himself.
"We have a small cottage on the coast of France. It's not too much. You'll need to actually bring a lot of supplies with you, like food and matches but the rest is pretty much there. Go anytime you need to escape here." she said as I felt my eyelids drooping.
