Chapter 22.3: Cutting the Cord

Start from the beginning

He liked Raven so much it hurt.

It could have been a lot or even a little, he didn't know and he didn't even know when it had occurred, but it had. It had hit him like a whirlwind, one that he couldn't avoid, drowning him in the abyss of confusion and conflicted thoughts. He wasn't one to ever feel confused nor not have an answer to something pertaining to him yet it was different now. His body and mind didn't act to his accord; didn't follow his orders anymore. It frustrated him that things had become unpredictable for him. He never knew what to expect: about how he would act or how she would act and it frustrated him.

"No, really, it's fine, Justin. I'm serious." Savannah's soft voice broke him from his thoughts and he looked up to her as she smiled to him. He only frowned, eyebrows furrowing together.

"Really?" He asked curiously, not being able to read her facial expressions. She nodded at this, the smile still on her face, but it only lasted for a second and his body tensed as her eyes began to water.

"Savannah..." His voice broke off in concern, face tense and her eyes widened at this as she reached up both hands, attempting to wipe the tears before they fell, but some slipped past, streaking her face.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to." Her voice was hoarse, her eyes not even looking up at him now and he couldn't help it as he moved forward, pulling her into his stiff body. There, her small sniffles turned to sobs and he tensed at the sound, feeling stupid for how callous he had been. He hadn't known he would hurt her that much with his words. Still, despite how much he cursed himself for his words, he didn't regret it. If the situation arose again, he would still disclose how he felt to her. He didn't want to lead her on; he respected her to much for that.

"No, I'm sorry." Justin spoke, disagreeing with her previous words and she held him tighter at this as he stayed still, holding her because it was the least she deserved despite his discomfort at touch. It was working, it seemed, from how her loud sobs dwindled to small sniffles yet again.

It felt like hours passed like this, her quietly sniffing and him holding her, letting her vent. Then, she stopped, withdrawing from him gently. He looked down curiously at this, gazing intently to her tear-stricken face with cool eyes.

"I'm okay now." She muttered weakly, offering a meek smile and Justin's eyebrows drew together in concern at her words.

"You said that before crying too." He pointed out despite himself and she nodded, the smile not letting up.

"I know, but I really am." She voiced and he scanned her face for any indicator of her sadness. She fidgeted under his gaze , letting out a subconscious sigh when he shifted his eyes away.

"Okay, I'll believe it because you said it." He answered and Savannah nodded before placing a hand on his arm, making him look up.

"I'm glad you told me. I wouldn't want myself being the only one happy in this relationship. We both deserve honesty." She soothed in her typical voice and Justin tensed at her words. So she had been happy in the relationship and he had ruined it.

Many a time, he could not read other's emotions and so- often- he would play under the assumption that they were of the same mind and opinion as him, but this was not the case.

People confused him; they didn't follow the predictable patterns nor did they disclose everything with utter honesty? They lived in a sense of vagueness and mystery, hiding themselves from others.

Especially, with Savannah, he hadn't assumed she was that happy with him. Well, not in a romantic form, is what he thought. They acted much like friends and enjoyed each other's company just as much as he enjoyed Lexi's company. He had thought that Savannah had felt the same.

"I guess I better go."

He snapped out of his thoughts at this, looking to her smiling face as she stood up and he frowned, standing up, his form towering over hers.

"And you're okay?" He asked yet again and Savannah nodded. He didn't oppose her going if it was her wishes, but if it was due to him having upset her, he'd rather talk it out. Still, he wouldn't force her and he nodded watching as she made her way to his door.

She paused for a moment then, turning around to him and he watched curiously as she seemed to fight for the right words, her face in thought before she spoke, her voice hesitant.

"Can I ask why?" She asked tentatively and she didn't have to specific for he knew what she was talking about.

She was speaking about the reason he had asked to break up.

She watched with tepid wide eyes, looking as though even the wind could hurt her if it blew in her direction. He didn't want to hurt her yet again but nor did he wish to deceive her. He didn't have it in him. So, he did the only thing he though was right.

"I'm confused about my feelings for another girl." His deep voice broke into the silence and Savannah's eyes instinctively widened at his words. It went silent as she watched him, her entire body rigid.

Then, without another word, she was out of the door, leaving him in silence. Again, he felt stupid for his callous way of wording, but he knew no other way to speak.

In that silence, he thought about what he had done all because of a pair of glistening green eyes and he rubbed his hands down his face, sitting back on the sofa.

"You've gone insane." He spoke dryly of himself, head in his hands and in that moment he knew that he had to forget her. He had to rid of the thoughts in his mind that encouraged him to feel for her; to ache in her absence. She was no good for him. Still, try as he might, her green eyes filled his mind throughout the night.

And throughout the same night, Savannah cried herself to sleep in the loss of the man she lost: a man she lost to Raven.

He shook his head with a smile before turning to Danny.
"You can spin it, dude." He tapped Danny on the back to which Danny squealed, pulling Aaron into a bone-crushing hug.

Justin sighed in a tired manner, his grey heated eyes set on Danny.
"Keep wasting precious time and I'll take it off you again." He threatened, bluntly. Danny let out a horrified squeal before snatching up the bottle and spinning it at the speed of light.

As if God was pulling the strings of the game, the bottle front landed, facing towards Aaron.
"Truth"

Danny smiled, clapping his hands like a circus seal.

"My turn to ask! My turn to ask!" He shouted, his eyes alit. And, yet again, the silence acted as a prompt and Danny spoke.

I should have known I would have regretted this
