Under Attack

Chapter 20- Under Attack

Declande was in awe of Jay. He found Jay fascinating because he had never really been around a human. I watched from my spot at the breakfast table as Declande asked Jay all these questions. I smiled at Drake and he grinned at me

“My love do you want to go for a ride today?” he asked

“Yes. I missed Angelo. I only rode him a few times” I said sipping my glass of blood. When we were finished we got changed into some comfy clothing and headed out to the stables. Angelo was happy to get out and so was Drake’s horse. We rode to the special field and I jumped down. I walked through the field and picked a flower putting it in my hair.

“I’ve been thinking...” Drake started. I turned and smiled at him. “We should expand our family” my smile fell. I had enough trouble with Declande when I was giving birth.

“Think about it. we have a little me and now we should have a little girl. Wouldn’t it be great to have a little you?” he asked. I raised an eyebrow. He strode over and embraced me.

“Drake....” I started. I didn't know how to tell him about it but hopefully I would never have to.

“come on baby” he pleaded. I frowned and looked down.

“You didn't have to give birth to Declande. It was hard and painful and I....” I stopped when I smelt smoke. Drake did too and we were both on our horses and galloping back to the kingdom gate. I noticed the smoke coming from inside the gates. I really hoped everything was ok. The gates opened and I noticed chaos. I looked around trying to find Declande but I couldn’t. I climbed down and saw Maria calling a name. When I strained my ears I heard she was calling for Declande. I ran to her.

“Where is Declande!” I asked desperately

“I don’t know the fireballs hit and chaos erupted. I lost sight of him” she said “I’m sorry Amalia” I felt tears. I looked around trying to find my son.

“DECLANDE!” I screamed. There was no answer. I strained my ears trying to find him or hear him. then I spotted Jay. I bolted to him and grasped his shoulders

“Have you seen Declande?” I asked. he shook his head and then I saw him.

“Declande!” I cried. I heard a crack and something was falling. And it was going to fall on Declande. I tried to get to him but it was too hard to get through the people and then the thing fell. I screamed and everyone became quiet. my scream was so agonising that it caught the attention of everyone. I ran to the place where the wall had fallen and fell to my knees looking under it

“Declande?” I said through sobs. I heard his cough and I fell to my stomach

“Baby are you ok?” I asked

“Mummy I hurt” he whimpered. I noticed that the wall was on his leg

‘It’s ok baby mummy’s here!” I called. I looked around and found everyone staring

‘Someone help me please!” I cried. Drake was with me in a second.

“What happened?”

“Declande is under there!” I said pointing to the fall wall. The colour drained from Drake’s face and he was on his knees talking gently to Declande while trying to lift the wall.

“Devon help me!” he yelled. Devon nodded and came to help. All of a sudden so many people were trying to help lift it. I was bawling my eyes out. my baby was hurt! I heard his light cry of pain and the moment the wall was slightly lifted I darted under there and grabbed my son. He was crying with a dirt stained face and his leg was bleeding.

“Aw baby” I cried holding him tightly. He clung to me as I made my way to the castle and. Drake told Devon to restore order to the city and he came with me. We called for the doctor and she wrapped his leg in a very thick and tight bandage saying that he should be fine his leg was just deeply bruised and cut. I held his hand while this was all happening.

“Mummy don't cry I am fine” he said patting my hand. I let out a small sob/laugh and kissed his head. I carried him to the bathroom to wash his face and he sat there like a very good boy.

‘You were so brave Declande” I said quietly. He smiled up at me

“Jay told me to run” he said

“Run from what?”

“The fire balls” he said

“Where did they come from?”

“I dunno. One minute I was playing and the next I was running” he said as I wiped the cloth over his face to remove the last of the dirt. I nodded and then carried him to his room

“You can play now but no walking. Call me or daddy if you need anything” I said kissing his head and walking downstairs to get him some blood. Drake was in the office looking at plans with Jay and Devon. I ignored it and headed over to the fridge. I grabbed two bottles and headed back upstairs. I handed one to my son and then drank the other

“How was your ride?” he asked

“Lovely. When you are a bit older I will take you with me” I said smiling. He grinned and continued to play. A little while later Drake walked in looking guilty

“What is it?” I asked. he made a jerking motion with his head over his shoulder so I got up and followed him.

“We are going to make sure the wolves aren’t around” he said. I gave him a stern look and he sighed pecking me on my head

“I will be back before dinner” he said and then he was gone. I rolled my eyes and went back into the room. Declande was looking out of his balcony. I joined him and scooped him up in my arms. He watched as Drake left the gates once again.

He did return by dinner and said it was all secure. I had to admit I was very happy with my life right now except for the unfortunate accident with Declande. I smiled at him while he ate and he smiled too. My baby.
