"Randall, Vinh, get those civilians onto the boats! William, we need to support the Atlassian Knights, move!" Joshua ordered. He wasn't going to let anyone die, not again

The Atlassian Knights pushed back the Grimm with the aid of spartans William S-043 and Joshua S-029

The Grimm appeared to be different in a way. They seemed to be much stronger and faster from previous engagements, but Joshua put the thought of Grimm being augmented aside. It is likely that these are older and more experienced Grimm

"Grenade, out!" William yelled as he threw a grenade at the Grimm
The grenade exploded into a small cloud of smoke and shrapnel
The remaining Grimm were either dead or wounded, easy pickings

It was against the rules of war to kill a wounded combatant, but when you're fighting soulless monsters with the urge to kill, the rules of war don't necessarily apply to them.
It's not like the Grimm can be reasoned with anyway.

Joshua looked to his left to see four Vale police officers. Their profiles read
Amanda Grey, Sebastion Victor, Daniella Orange, and Jeffery Brick

"Officers Grey and Brick, I need you two to guard the left flank while officers Orange and Victor guard the right flank, myself, the Atlassian Knights, and 043 will hold position in the center." Joshua ordered

The officers nodded as they went to their positions

When Joshua turned around, the Atlassian Knights turned towards him and William in unison. They aimed their rifles at the two and opened fire

The dust bullets did nothing to the Mjolnir armor and had little effect on the energy shields
But that doesn't mean the civilians were safe

"Hey, what the?!"
"It doesn't matter, William, return fire. We don't want the civilians to get hit!" Joshua ordered as he returned fire, with William doing the same after a few seconds

The knights fell to the ground, their systems off, and their bodies a lifeless, mutilated corpse

"What the hell, do you think Atlas betrayed us?" William asked as he turned to his commanding officer
"Negative, Atlas may be stupid, but their not this stupid." Joshua replied as he saw the destruction around them

It reminded him of the battles they had faced during the Human-Covenant War. Those memories are a reminder of why he and every spartan who fought in that war to fight harder and to be better

Joshua sighed. "We need to set up a perimeter," Joshua turned to William. "William, you and I will take point. The officers will take care of our flanks."

William nodded as the two of them got in position, "How the hell did we not see this coming?" Joshua thought as he reloaded his MA5C Assault Rifle

Vinh helped the civilians get on the boats with Randall. They mostly helped the elderly, an evacuation like this reminds them about the evacuation of Reach and the planets before it

Vinh heard a baby cry as its mother tried to calm it down, and children asking their parents where their relatives were as they cried their eyes out

"Vinh, are you okay?" Randall asked
Vinh turned to face her fellow Spartan-II, "Yeah, I'm fine, just. . . It's been a while since something like this happened." Vinh replied

Randall sighed as he helped an elderly couple get on one of the boats
Vinh heard two children without their parents crying. She walked towards them, "Hey, why are you crying?" The Spartan-II gently asked as she knelt down in front of them.
The first child spoke. It was a boy who looked to be around the age of five, "w-we-" the boy let out a small hiccup before he continued, "w-we lost our mom when th-the monsters ate her." The boy said as he cried his eyes out
