Chapter 16

¨Come onnnnnn, just give me a little hint. Please??¨ Hermione pouted as Draco drove down a route she was completely unfamiliar with. Curiosity overcame her as she pestered Draco to tell her where he was bringing her to. As the view of the setting sun down the horizon came into view, hues of blue, pink, orange and purple seemed to appear more vibrant than before. It looked fantastically mesmerising. Draco pulled over to the side of the empty road on the highway and pointed into the distance, where there was a beautiful meadow full of flowers, with the setting sun illuminating them.

Draco then passed Hermione an envelope. A plain, white envelope with no writing on it whatsoever seemed to pique Hermione's interest. Ripping the envelope open, she caught a glimpse of a logo imprinted on the paper enclosed in the envelope. She paused for a moment almost stopped breathing. It was the logo of her late parent's dentistry. Inside the envelope contained the land deeds to a plot of land. ¨Draco... what's this?¨

¨They were going to redevelop the area and tear down everything. I thought you would take better care of the area and keep a part of your parents' as memories. I know how much you miss them and if they were going to tear everything down, It would have been lost forever.¨ Hermione stared at her husband in shock, tears welling up in her eyes. ¨Draco... I dont know what to say. Thank you so much. I love you so much more each day, you have no idea how much it means to me.¨

Draco smiled at his wife and gently pulled her into his arms. ¨It's no problem, my love. You can always count on me okay?¨ Hearing Draco's words, Hermione nodded as she sniffled and grinned at him. The couple sat on the hood of the car, watching the beautiful sun set, with a light breeze sweeping through the meadow, making the flowers dance among the grass. Cliche, yes, but Hermione and Draco couldnt ask for anything more. It was the simple company of each other that they absolutely loved.

Back at the hotel, Hermione was supposed to meet the rest of the Granger family for a late dinner at the restaurant in the lobby, but she had felt unwell and stayed in her room to rest. Draco accompanied his wife in the room, attending to her and giving her his undivided attention. Just then, there was a knock on the door. It was Kate. After hearing of Hermione's condition, she took the liberty of specially ordering Hermione's favourite soup and bringing it to her in her suite, to Hermione's absolue delight. ¨Oh my gosh, Hermione! Are you okay? I heard you were feeling sick so I ordered a bowl of mushroom soup for you. I know you always liked this and it may help you feel better!¨

A grin spread across Hermione's face as she pulled Kate into a hug, thanking her profusely. She hadn't drank mushroom soup in a long time, and it had been her absolute favourite comfort food since her childhood, and even through her time at Hogwarts. As she dipped a spoon into the thick soup, bringing it up to her lips, warmth enveloped her as a wave of nostalgia hit her. She had never felt quite so emotional before, or perhaps she had missed her comfort food too much.

¨How are you feeling Hermione?" Kate asked, ¨I hope you don't feel too terrible. If not, this trip would be such a waste!¨ Hermione smiled and replied, ¨Oh don't worry, dear cousin, other than some morning vomiting, headaches and such strong cravings for fast food, I feel fine! I'm sure Ill be back to normal condition pretty soon.¨ As Kate registered what Hermione had just said, her expressions went through a spectrum of changes. ¨Hold on... morning sickness, headaches, cravings...¨ Kate paused for a moment before she shrieked, ¨GIRL! ARE YOU PREGNANT???¨ Hermione's eyes widened to the size of the bowl of mushroom soup Kate brought her. She completely froze. As Kate's voice was loud enough for everybody in the suite to hear, Draco came barging into the room, panting and smiling, ¨YOU'RE PREGNANT??¨

¨EVERYONE STOP. NOBODY'S PREGNANT. CALM DOWN.¨ Kate replied saying, ¨Hermione, I think you should take a pregnancy test. You know, just to be safe. ¨ Draco, who had then thought about everything that had happened before this, he too, urged Hermione to take a pregnancy test. With both Kate's and Draco's persuasions, Hermione gave in and went into the toilet to take the test.

Coming out of the toilet with the test in hand, the trio huddled together, staring fixated at the pregnancy test. A few minutes felt like forever, and just then, the 'beep' sound reverberated through the room. Hermione inhaled deeply and shut her eyes, steeling her nerves. With a trembling hand, she raised the pregnancy test. Seeing the '+' sign, she froze and a wave of emotion enveloped her. Confusion, disbelief, happiness, excitement, sadness and fear. She could have sworn she felt every emotion imaginable to mankind. Being a parent...already? Hermione had just gotten married and she did not think she would become a parent so soon, and the fear of failing lingered in the back of her mind.

Draco, who had seen the positive pregnancy test, seemed to already know what Hermione was thinking about, and immediately put his arm around his wife. ¨Love, we're becoming parents. We will learn and we will succeed. Together. Don't worry.¨ Hearing Draco's words, Hermione couldn't take it anymore, and she burst into happy tears. Bawling her eyes out, she hugged both Draco and Kate, mumbling through her tears, ¨I hope it's a little boy.¨

Chuckling Draco nodded and squeezed his wife's hand in reassurance. ¨I'm so happy for you, Hermione!! Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, I'm going to be an aunt!!¨ Kate squealed and clapped her hands in excitement, contributing to the bubbling atmosphere. At that moment, Hermione looked around her and for the first time, she felt a different sense of gratitude.
