Show Me How

It was becoming almost impossible for Y/n to avoid a certain Slytherin boy. It wasn't that she didn't like him, in fact every time she saw him a subtle tingle would resonate on her lips as she remembered the events of the night prior. It was just that she didn't know if she was ready for a relationship.

It was still early morning, with the clouds shrouding the sun, yet Y/n had positioned herself outside on the bridge overlooking the vast grounds. It was awfully close to the Hufflepuff common rooms but anything was better than the darkness of the Slytherin dungeons. Besides, she quite enjoyed the cold nipping at her cheeks and the quiet-

"Y/n?"

A certain Hufflepuff boy stood a couple of metres away, his cheeks were flushed and it was clear he had significantly slowed down his pace in the last few minutes.

"So are you gonna make me ask why you're sitting on the bridge with your blanket or should i ask"

"Just needed to think"

"And the darkness helps with that?"

She shrugged while shooting him a sheepish grin as he continued to approach. He eventually settled himself down beside her. The girl had quickly returned her eyes to the view as the rays of the sun began to rise, whereas his eyes continued to lay set on her figure.

The boy was beginning to feel the sharp decline of his running high as the coldness began to nip as his bare skin. Slight shivers ran across his body and yet he couldn't find it in himself to leave the beautiful girl beside him. So instead of leaving, he instead sat shivering every now and then, simply living in the moment, hoping Y/n didn't notice his discomfort.

It was easy to miss Cedric's soft movements but Y/n could hear how his breath became slightly ragged as he continued to sit. The girl tenderly lifted up the corner of her blanket and placed it lightly onto Cedric's own lap, engulfing him in not only the heat of the covering but also her own body heat. It certainly caught him by surprise as the adorable gesture led to a rush of blood to warm his cheeks, in that moment he had never been so thankful that the cold had already blushed his cheeks into a rosy tone. They eventually scooted closer to one another, simply staring at the painting in the sky.

The often hurried footsteps of Y/n slowed as she wandered the halls. She had just completed the final lesson of her day and with no sign of heat from her coin, it seemed as though her afternoon was free. She was reluctant to head back to her common room. Partly due to the fact that Draco and Blaise had become obsessed with their new 'duties' as a part of the inquisitorial squad and partly because she still hadn't figured out how to approach Theo. As she turned into another empty hallway, she noticed Luna Lovegood. The girl was staring around the hall, almost as if in search of something invisible.

"You alright there Luna?"

"Hi Y/n, i seem to have misplaced my shoes."

As Y/n peered downwards it became apparent that Luna was in fact barefoot, a detail which she had somehow missed.

"Well, i could help you find them if you'd like?"

"That would be lovely"

The two girls continued wandering the stone bricked walkways, wanting to investigate the warm interior of the school before stepping into the cold air which awaited outside. Y/n couldn't help but giggle softly at the way Luna pranced through the castle with a soft smile strewn across her face.

"Do you remember where you last had them with you Luna?"

"Hm. I think i remember wearing them outside. In the woods."

The two set out towards the tree-lined forest, finally giving in to the need to go outside in search of the lost shoes. Y/n hurriedly hugged her robe towards herself in an attempt to conserve the little heat her body produced. She desperately hoped they would find Lunas shoes in the forest( although she hadn't completely figured out why they may be there). It had been almost two hours since they had started their search and it was becoming a little bit tedious for the both of them.

As they entered the treeline, Y/n let her eyes wander across the foliage, attempting to make out Luna's black shoes. They would be easy to spot, considering they clashed against the colours of the trees. The girl had gotten more caught up in the wonders of her surroundings than she would have liked to admit. It reminded her of when her Grandmother would take her out on nature walks when her parents became too caught up in their work to play with her. The sudden lack of rustling leaves snapped Y/n out of her thoughts.

Luna was gone.

Worry began to build up within the girl, threatening to bubble over as she swivelled her body around in search of the Ravenclaw. She was becoming increasingly desperate as she continued searching until a soft giggle echoed through the trees. Y/n quickly chased after them, hoping Luna was okay. As she continued further in, she noticed the trees had begun to thin out, leading to a clearing. Luna stood in the centre, petting what many would believe to be air. Instead Y/n saw the horse-like creatures she encountered at the start of each year.

"What are they Luna?"

"You see the thestrals?"

Thestrals. The name bounced around Y/n's mind for a moment as she began slowly approaching the magnificent creatures. It felt familiar. Their initial appearance was slightly daunting, but the gaunt look was completely counteracted by the doe eyes which glistened slightly in the rays which bounced off of them. Reaching her hand out the creature swiftly nuzzled her palm, making her giggle at the soft touch.

"So who have you lost?"

It hit her in that moment where she had heard the name thestrals before. She had been told tales of creatures who would show themselves to you with no barrier except one. A barrier unlocked by death.

"My grandmother. It's one of the reasons i moved here. My parents like to say its because of their work but really they think i needed a change in scenery."

She couldn't tell why she was telling Luna of all people her deepest secrets in that moment but it flowed out of her in a stream of consciousness, replicating an unstoppable waterfall.  For once she felt so glad to be in the loneliness of the forest with just the Thestrals and Luna. Small droplets began forming in the crevice of her eyes, accumulating before swiftly falling down her soft skin. Luna had walked forwards, engulfing her in a hug. Not one of the swift ones her parents gave to her when they were running late but a true tender hug that made her feel incomparably safe. It felt good to be vulnerable for once.

The two remained in one another's embrace until they eventually stopped. Luna did her best to cheer up the girl, showing her the tricks the thestrals had learnt over the years, and soon the two were giggling at one another and the antics of the creatures before them. The sun had set a while ago and it was clear that dinner had already begun, leaving the two girls to rush up towards the stone walls of the castle once more. Just before they passed the entry however, they noticed a pair of black shoes, placed carefully beside the door. A pair of shoes that belonged to Luna.

Y/n couldn't help but think that they hadn't been there before when they had left.

A/n Another chapter, I loved writing Luna she's such a cutie patootie. Anyways idrk what to do next, i'll probably get Y/n and Theo to interact again next chapter and figure something out with that. Also i don't really know who i've written a lot of and who i haven't (For love interests) so if you want to see more of a certain character just let me know.

Love, SweetandSsour
