07 | keep him close

"Last night in the neighborhood of __ police were called around 2:40 am in regards to a stabbing. Clear signs of struggle have been found on the victim's body meaning she put up a fight against her attacker. No witnesses during the time of the attack, a jogger called authorities at 6:35 am," Suzu was currently reading another news articles about another murder. "At this time there are no leads but authorities are working to uncover the case. The murder has been tied to the murder of the college student just a couple weeks prior found in the __ District. If there are any witnesses please come forward with any information."

Distracted with the news she missed the dark shadow peering over her, a hand to her shoulder had her jumping in her seat. As soon as she turned a smile spread across her lips, "Hey."

"What are you looking at?" Jungkook asked as he took a seat next to her in the library. He wore a black crew neck with bandana pattered black sweats and thick boots. He dropped his books onto the table with his laptop. Suzu showed him her screen and he skimmed through the headline giving a shrug of his shoulders. He cleared his throat, "Things are getting crazy."

"Yeah, this is my neighborhood, it's kinda scary," Suzu said biting her lip in thought unaware of the way Jungkook's eyes trailed down to them, licking his lips in the process. She continued scrolling through the article reading of the possible perpetrator. Yet again they're looking at the hooded figure wearing a ghost mask. Suddenly, Jungkook's hands went over her eyes making her smile a little.

Once her phone was down on the table turning to look at him he finally moved his hand away, leaning into her a little more making sure they were face to face. He smiled with a bit of teeth showing lowering his hand from her face, "Sorry, I just wanted your attention on me."

"Gross, that was kinda cheesy," she teased making Jungkook laugh softly in agreement. They were supposed to be doing homework right now before Suzu had to go into work but they've only been talking now. It didn't take long for two to get close after meeting. Jungkook was easy to talk to and get along with. He made her laugh and texted a few times. He also distracted her from both of her ex boyfriends.

She didn't mind the flirting, it was fun and it helped that Jungkook was attractive. He had a pretty smile and a little stutter when he got too excited.

Jungkook's hand that had once been on her face was on the table, not even a centimeter away from hers. His finger reached out, touching the tip of Suzu's, it looked like he was shy now. His eyes rounded and that little spark was back, "Call me whenever you're out late, I'm serious."

"Okay," Suzu said.

"So what are you doing after work?" Jungkook cleared his throat wanting to end this conversation. He's done one problem of his homework so far and that's only because he copied it from Suzu. Since the moment he saw her he knew he wanted to get closer to her. It took a lot of restraint not to come on too strong but he couldn't help it. There was just something about her that drew him in. It wasn't just her looks even if he thought she was one of the most attractive girls he's ever seen.

He liked her smile too and the color of her eyes. Her voice was soft yet deep too and it was so soothing. Her laugh was contagious and he wanted to hear it more often especially if he was the cause of it.

"I'm meeting up with some friends," Suzu said with a shrug, "Why? Wanna come with?"

"Yeah sure," he answered while sliding her chair closer to his so he could copy her homework.

So later on in the day when she'd finished with work and gone home to change, Jungkook came by to pick her up. She showed him the directions to Jia's place and he headed over.

"Sorry if they're rude," Suzu said leading him into the apartment without knocking already hearing loud voices. One look inside told her everything she needed to know, Yunha brought Taehyung.

"It's about fucking time," Jimin shouted once Suzu was through the door, his voice fading at the tall, tatted stranger who walked in with her. A huge upgrade from Mino, dare he say in the same league as Taehyung.

"I was working," she responded back as she led Jungkook over to the empty love seat stepping over the ottoman so she could avoid Taehyung and Yunha, "This is Jungkook."

A string of hellos were heard as he introduced himself nodding his head in acknowledgement toward Taehyung before he was taking a seat next to Suzu. She looked over to Taehyung and the dark purple bruise on his arm, "What happened to you?" She shouldn't care.

Taehyung looked down to it ready to explain when Yunha cut him off, "Some asshole hit him with their car door last night."

Suzu missed the way Taehyung and Jungkook shared a look for a split second as she looked down on her phone. Not even five minutes into being here and her phone was ringing, Namjoon's name lighting up her screen. With a small sigh she stood up, "I've gotta answer this. Are you okay waiting here?"

"We don't bite," Jimin said to which Jia nodded in agreement, "Unless you want us to."

Jungkook watched after Suzu as she excused herself to Jia's bedroom to answer the phone. "Hello?"

"Hey, so I don't know if you care but I finally got a hold of Mino," Namjoon had said immediately, "I was on the phone with his parents and they said he came home that Saturday. Apparently he'd spent the time at the hospital."

"Wait, what?" Suzu's brows furrowed in confusion, "In the hospital for what? Why wouldn't he tell me?"

"He was assaulted, like bad," Namjoon said into the phone with a sigh, "I guess he transported to the hospital Wednesday's night and his parents flew in to come get him and take him back."

"But... what about the texts?" She asked trying to rack her brain around everything Namjoon was currently telling her. Nothing made sense, how could he have been assaulted? What happened? "How hurt was he? So he's not coming back? He just cut everyone off?"

Namjoon took a deep breath, "He was attacked by a wood pallet leaving him with four broken ribs and broken jaw, apparently he was lucky to be alive. Police said it was a robbery gone wrong since his wallet was missing, car keys, phone, basically anything on him."

"So whoever took the phone was leaving texts? Can't it be tracked to find who did it?" Suzu asked gnawing on her bottom lip now. Namjoon was quiet for a minute making her only the more anxious. Her fingers brushed her hair back with a small sigh. He mimicked her with a sigh, "His parents didn't press a single charge since there were no suspects."

"His parents told you all this? Does Yunha know? Aren't they close friends?" Suzu kept throwing questions at him, completely disregarding everyone outside or that she left Jungkook out there.

He was out there for a while being interrogated by Jimin and Yunha for some strange reason. He met Suzu through class and though he wanted to get a lot closer he's barely getting somewhere with her.

After a couple minutes he couldn't take it anymore, a glare from a certain someone's boyfriend was driving him crazy. It made him feel like he needed to see Suzu. It's why he got up abruptly asking Jia if he can check on Suzu in her room. He left quickly down the hall listening closely first before knocking lightly, "Suzu?"

"Let's talk later Joon," She sighed once she heard a knock on the door, "I'll come over tomorrow."

Jungkook couldn't resist the urge to clench his jaw hearing Suzu's words. He was ready to knock again when the door swung open, a red eyed Suzu standing in front of him now. His eyes softened, "Hey, what's wrong?"

His voice was gentle watching her with worry as she cleared her throat, "I wanna go home."

"Alright," Jungkook didn't bother asking why when they'd just gotten here before she got the call. Instead he followed after her as she gave a half-added goodbye to her friends before heading straight to the door. It must've been a common way for her to say goodbye because not a single person batted an eye. He said his goodbyes to everyone matching the glare of Taehyung's as he left with Suzu.

Just outside the building before either one of them can get in the car, Jungkook stopped her. Suzu did feel extremely worried now, a little guilty, and honestly kind of scared. How did all of this happen without her knowing?

"Suzu, tell me what happened," Jungkook begged gently pulling on her hand to come closer to him. Suzu just felt so bad, she could've tried reaching out to Mino more. Hell, she could've checked on him the night he went out drinking. Instead she blamed him for ghosting her like that. It just didn't make sense why his parents wanted to keep everything quiet about this.

At Suzu's silence, Jungkook acted before getting a response. Instead he tugged her even closer until his arms could wrap around her. Her hands touched around his skin waist as he let him hug her for a second, "It's nothing."

"It doesn't seem like nothing," Jungkook answered as she moved to pull away. His tongue slipped through his teeth to like at his cheek in irritation. Can't she just confide in him?

"It is," She seemed exasperated turning away from him to unlock the door of her car. He bit his lip to keep himself prying any more and got in the car.
