"Last night's horrendous acts have left the __ District in disbelief. The young victim was found dead in her garage at 2:36am, with multiple stab wounds to the chest and signs of struggle-"
"It's too early for that shit," she winced, eyes struggling against the early morning sun blaring through the drawn curtains. The television was set to the local news story, a report on a dead body found last night. Suzu barely glanced at the screen as she made her way into her kitchen for coffee.
Her best friend sat on her couch, Suzu's robe wrapped around her as she drank hot coffee, "How'd you get any sleep last night with those police sirens?"
"A fuck ton of Melatonin," Suzu muttered pouring herself a caffeinated drink in hopes of waking herself up more, "What time did you wake up?"
"Like 6, you were dead asleep hogging the whole bed," she let out a sigh turning toward Suzu, "Anyway, isn't that kind of fucked up? Apparently the chick was found dead and all chopped up, or stabbed, whatever."
"Yeah it's fucked up," Suzu said with a yawn as Jia scoot to one side of the couch for Suzu to sit. She slumped into the cushions checking the time on her phone screen, "What time do you have class?"
Jia shook her head in disbelief, "Hello, did you even hear the news? A chick from campus died last night only a couple blocks away from here. Classes are canceled for the rest of the week."
"Yay, a four day weekend," Suzu smiled a little. Jia sighed, "Alright horror freak, aren't you scared?"
"I just woke up, let shit settle in and ask me again later," Suzu sighed running her fingers through her knotted bed head. Sia rolled her eyes at her as she completely disregarded the whole situation, "What time's Mino coming back?"
Suzu shrugged her shoulders, "I don't know, soon?"
Her eyes looked down to her phone again wonder if her boyfriend of three months has texted her yet. He was supposed to text last night when he got back to his place but he hasn't. He probably got too shit faced with his friends that he blacked out. Typical college kid.
"Did you hear Yunha has a new guy?" Jia asked, trying to spark a conversation this early in the morning. Suzu nodded her head, "She mentioned someone but she won't say the name. She says it's lowkey and they're still trying to work it out."
"God I hate being a material girl," Jia sighed, "Nobody wants me because I reek of dark feminine energy."
"That's iconic," Suzu laughed, "If you were into girls I'd date you."
"What about Mino?" Jia questioned as they continued their hypothetical romance discussion. Suzu gave her a shrug, what about her boyfriend? "I'd break up with him."
"Right, add another name to your glorious track record of broken hearted men," Jia joked with a wave of her hand, "Remember what happened to the last one? He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named?"
"Voldemort? Never. Tom Riddle maybe but not lizard face," Suzu said jokingly to lighten the situation. She hated that even if her relationship with her previous boyfriend was toxic and she was in a better one now, she still thought about him. It was hard not to when the relationship had been so intense since the get-go. She really had loved him or at least as close to love as possible for a girl who had little experience with it, but in his eyes it was never as much as he wanted her to.
"You know who I'm talking about but if you don't want to talk about him then we won't. Let's just go back to our friendship being elevated to lovers. But where does that leave Yunha?"
"She's got a man so it won't matter, she can always cheat on him with us, I'm sure that'd be better," Suzu said jokingly with a shrug of her shoulders. It was hard for her to take anything serious and she learned that long ago. It was almost like everything was just a joke to her, sometimes it was fine, other times it wasn't.
"Okay but why hasn't she told us his name? Aren't we her best friends, or am I crazy?" Jia asked getting up and taking the robe off exposing the bra and boxer shorts she wore to sleep last night.
"We are her friends but I also think you're bat shit crazy," Suzu told her seriously, "But honestly, I don't really care who she's dating as long as it isn't some axe murderer."
Jia was changing into a different set of clothes right there in the living room while Suzu looked to the television which was still playing some news. It was still about the murder that happened last night and this time around she was more focused on it. Still, she sat relaxed on her couch with a cup of coffee and very little regard for the severity of the situation.
"One witness had stated seeing a dark hooded figure wearing a sort of Halloween mask. No suspects have been brought in for questioning yet and the police are currently in communication with the victim's family. University of Seoul has written a memorial for the deceased student and classes have been put on hold until the following Monday-"
"It was probably her boyfriend," Suzu told Jia as the two watched the rest of the report, "It's always the boyfriend because men are shit."
"Oh for sure, you better watch for Mino," Jia joked as she fell back onto the couch. Suzu shook her head, "Mino would never murder me. He doesn't have it in him. I've heard him scream bloody murder just because he saw a spider."
"True, your boyfriend's a wimp," Jia said with a shrug of her shoulders. Suzu quietly agreed as they went to change the channel. It was a Monday and with classes canceled they were up early for no reason and with nothing to do.
"He's not a wimp per se, he's just sensitive," Suzu tried defending him but Jia just rolled her eyes.
And okay, Suzu's boyfriend is kind of a wimp but not really. He's just different from her previous partners who've been intimidating, intense people. She has a problem with choosing the wrong guy and in the end gets dragged into a controlling, jealous relationship. It wasn't good for her and yet it's what she liked. It probably had something to do with needing severe validation of their feelings but that's typically the kind of guy she went for. Hence her ex being titled Voldemort simply for the fact that she hated talking about him.
When she first met Mino they were nothing but classmates last semester. He was a cute geeky sort of guy with fluffy hair and though he was obviously attractive he wasn't her type. Mino hadn't been subtle with his crush on her, always finding an excuse to get closer to her through projects and study groups. She knew this, clearly, and began a light flirtation with him just for fun. At the time she had just broken up with her previous boyfriend and with boredom's eating up inside her she basically made Mino her new boy toy.
He asked her out about a month into flirting and having nothing better to do she agreed to a free dinner. That's when she realized that Mino was in fact hot and that it was her attraction to toxic men that made her think otherwise. He was genuinely a good guy and over time she grew feelings for him. Still, she couldn't say she was madly in love with him. They've only been together three months and when they first started dating she wasn't crazy over him.
"Whatever, I'm gonna call him," Suzu reached out for her phone, not a single text from him yet and tried dialing his number. It rang for a while but shortly after the call ended. With scrunched brows she looked at her screen before trying it one more time.
"Well?" Jia asked as she distracted herself with her own phone. Suzu shook her head, "He's probably hungover and still sleeping."
"Yeah why'd he get drunk on a Wednesday," Jia said shaking her head, "What a lucky bitch that classes have been canceled."
"I'm just gonna let him sleep," Suzu said with a shrug, "Text Jimin and ask him if he wants to get lunch."
She wasn't necessarily worried about why her boyfriend wasn't answering. He was the kind of guy she could trust so it wasn't like she was suspicious. He was most likely just hungover from when he went out for drinks last night.
Even with a murder happening recently, Suzu didn't feel anything about it. It's like she was in her own bubble where in her mind nothing dangerous would ever come to her and those closest to her.

fair warning: this is not just a smut story, might include every few chapters but it's not the focal point. It's a horror story with obsessive 'romance'
if this story seems familiar that's bc I wrote it on my koooktrash account but I decided to move it to this one instead
