Chapter 17: Influencer

Over the next few months, you release many makeup /styling tutorials of SM artists, featuring some of the members of EXO and NCT. You wanted to cover some female tutorials too but Red Velvet have been too busy to film a proper tutorial so you actually had to use your own face for those. And it seemed like your audience really likes your videos as you've been gaining more and more followers. You didn't actually notice this at first since you've just been so busy with your day job and also editing your videos, until you were called to see the director one day....

Knock knock, "Hi Director Kim, this is Y/N. You had asked to see me."

"Yes come in and have a seat"
You find your seat across from the director, and he continues.
"How is it going? It's been almost half a year since you've started at SM"
"It's been great. Busy. But good busy. I've been able to learn a lot from the team and also very thankful of the opportunity to share what we do on my YT channel."
"Right. About that..."

"Uh oh, did I do something wrong, do they want to cancel my channel?" You nervously thought as his voice trails off.

"Take a look at this" he then shows you something on his tablet.
You take a look and it's an email from HERA, a Korean cosmetics brand asking to collaborate with you. You couldn't imagine what you were looking at and were at a lost for words, so the director continues.
"What do you think?"
"Is this real?!?!"
"Haha yes it is Y/N"
"And they want to collaborate with me?"
"Yes! It's a great opportunity right? The company hopes you will say yes. It would be good exposure for you."
"But why? I'm just a new makeup artist."
"Have you not been paying attention to your stats?" He then tabs a few times on his tablet and show you another page on his tablet. "Look at this."
You take a look at what seems to be a collection of stats about your YT channels analyzing the growth of followers and views, trends in which videos did well, your viewership demographic, and collection of reviews from viewers. You were amazed at the dashboard as you had never looked at your YT channel performance in so much depth. You've used a bit of the YT provided analytics, but didn't think much of it since you were just producing videos as a hobby.
"So what do you think? Does this answer your question?" The director asks.
"I didn't know my channel was so popular!"
"Yes, you've gotten a lot of viewers recently and the company has taken notice. And seems that some brands have as well. We are actually in talks with brands other than HERA who have shown interest in you. We are still trying to iron out the details for those."
"Omg I don't know what to say"
"Just say yes to my next proposal..."
"Next proposal?"
"Based on your performance so far, the company is considering a new venture in making you an influencer."
"What do you mean?"
"SM has never done this before, but it will be similar to how SM manages it's artists right now, they will sign you on as an influencer and provide all the similar support in terms of marketing, arranging jobs and sponsors etc. You don't have to agree right away, the company is in preparation of the contract, as well they want to see how you work with HERA first. Think of it as a test."

Time skip to a month later

During the last month, you had worked on a new campaign with HERA to promote their new lipstick where you designed the makeup concept, helped with a magazine spread for the product, a CM and of course a behind the scenes video on your channel.

You were super stressed during the task although this was not the first time you helped with creating a concept and styling for a magazine spread as that was your job back in Japan. However knowing that this was part of a test to be signed onto SM you couldn't help but be nervous.

Today is the day the HERA CM will premier so you asked your boss for the afternoon off so you can watch it a home. You are too nervous to watch it with others around.

As you arrive home, "Hey babe!" A tall handsome man rushes to you and gives you a warm embrace.
"Omg what are you doing home so early?"
"It's your big day today! A sweet boyfriend like me must be by your side at a moment like this!" You couldn't help but laugh at how he called himself a sweet boyfriend. It's true though, despite his busy schedule, Chanyeol noticed how stressed you've been in preparation for this whole project so he prepared a surprise viewing party for the two of you.

"Omg it was amazing!" Chanyeol screams when the CM finished airing and gives you a big hug.
You were still dazed staring at the tv, relieved that it turned out pretty well.

You hear you phone ring non stop with text messages coming in. You read them and they were from your friends and coworkers who sent congratulatory messages.
