~ DUM SPIRO SPERO ~

AMBERLE'S POV

For a while, there was nothing but bright light. A wave of white washed over me, blinding my senses until I could no longer feel or see a damn thing.

It was similar to that darkness I'd found myself drowning in after death - only less claustrophobic.

No, this was much calmer. Peaceful, as expected. I wasn't sure how but I knew everything was going to be okay. I felt safe.

The gusts of wind had ceased. I couldn't tell if Enzo was still with me or if I was completely alone - either way, I didn't mind. I just hoped that wherever he was, it was kind to him.

And then the brightness gradually dimmed, fading away until my sight had completely returned. Scanning my surroundings, I took in the landscape before me, anxious to see what awaited; trees as far as the eye could see; late afternoon sun peeking through the branches above.

Oh, and a murderous British vampire still in my grip.

We exchanged awkward glances before I immediately let go, increasing the distance between us again with a small cough to clear my throat.

"Well, that was anti-climactic," I commented playfully. Noticing how we were very much still in the same spot we'd last been standing, I arched a brow. "Hey, where did everybody go?"

Enzo frowned, appearing almost deep in thought. "I don't know..." he murmured. Without warning, he suddenly walked away, heading straight for the border of Mystic Falls.

I gasped, reaching for him instinctively. "Enzo, wait-"

Before I could stop him, he crossed the border, his shoulders stiffening in anticipation of the potential pain to come.

When nothing happened, however, he blinked at me over his shoulder in pleasant surprise. "Hm." Enzo shrugged, peering down at himself. "Well, I haven't started coughing and I can hear your blood pumping around your body, so I'm still a vampire," he teased with a smirk. "Which means I'm either a dead vampire or Mystic Falls is no longer magic-free."

Giving me no chance to reply, Enzo continued on his journey, heading straight for the nearest road.

"Bonnie said her Grams made sure she would find peace," I reminded him as I hurried to catch up. "If that's the case then what is this place?"
