I am now fifteen years old and still living in the majestic Palace with Mother still in the hospital, having all kinds of relationships with my cousins and being alive....

-

"Princess Estelle!" Marina's voice was loud enough to take me out of my daydream as I caught the book that was slipping out of my hands.

Placing it down on the bed, my feet slid into my black heels and strapped the cord across the back and sides of my ankles.

I strolled across the large room and opened the door with the large doorknob to reveal a frail, old woman with dark brown hair strictly pressed against her scalp as being part of her uniform.

She had been wearing a black dress, a white apron and a hairband.

"Marina, is something the problem?" I asked curiously, seeing she was itching to tell me something.

"The Queen requests for your presence immediately," Marina explained.

"Grandmother? I wonder what she wants from me?" I mumbled as I closed the door quietly and followed the woman in a steady pace.

Even with the Palace being so big, it took us about three minutes and seven seconds to reach the Queen's study room, which had guards staying in their position in front of the door.

One look and the guards stepped aside from the door with what sounded like grunts and insults being muttered under their breaths.

Of course they could get executed for that but it would mean less guards in the Palace and that was not what we needed before the date of the Ballroom. I was used to it anyways.

Three knocks and the Queen answered with the usual 'who is it' and when Marina had said she was with me, the door was opened by a guard.

As we stepped into the room, there were about ten guards surrounding round the three people in the middle of the spaced room.

The Queen, who looked beautiful as usual, and a man with a woman by his side.

"Good morning my Queen, was there anything you needed?" I politely asked, performing a curtsy out of respect before focusing on the other people in the room.

"Actually yes, here is Mr. Woldu and Mrs. Kesh," The Queen instructed them, the two adults gave a bow and I did too but not out of respect but because the Queen was here.

"They are the Principal and Vice Principal of the private school, Harriet Private School and they said they were happy enough for you to go their school," She explained.

"We have heard that is a dilemma with you and schools but our private school do not treat our students based on their skin colour, as well there are many girls with your colour so I am sure you will fit in," The principle boasted of his school.

Race equality? It's an issue that is still not fully resolved. I doubt it, if there was ever a place like that, I would have known about it by now. Despite some progress, there is still a long way to go towards achieving genuine race equality - and I'm yet to come across such a place.

"We think you are at a suitable age to also participate in our activities, such as Horseback riding, Polo and we know that you have talent for tennis," The woman added. "We believe you have the ability and enthusiasm to excel in these sports and would be a great addition to our team,"

They had done their research on me. What do they want from me that they had clearly asked people about me, which was very unusual unless you wanted to assassinate me.

"But it is your choice Estelle, you get to choose if you still want to go or not," The Queen reminded me.

A life outside this Palace. I paused, considering the weight of her words. There was a world of possibility beyond the Palace walls, and it was my decision to make. There was absolutely no way that I would throw away that opportunity.

"I would be honoured to become a student to your school Mr. Woldu and Mrs. Kesh," I answered simply and the duo looked pleasantly surprised.

"Well... that is amazing! You can start school from next Monday and all other important information will be sent to you by a letter,"

The man and women then made their farewell and exited the room along with Marina, leaving only me and the Queen. I was left alone in the room with the Queen, feeling overwhelmed and humbled by the news I had just received.

"So... how did you like them? Did they act different with you?" The Queen asked curiously, having her hands entwined on her desk.

"They were... fine," Lies but all is not in vain if I get to make the Queen less stressed out.

"That is good, I am happy that you will be able to meet new people outside of the kingdom," Queen Althea assured me with soft tone.

"Is this all I was needed for my Queen?" I questioned patiently after a few seconds passed by.

"Ah, yes, you can leave now," Queen Althea concluded before starting to flick through the many of sheets that she needed to complete today.

As I was about to walk out the door, the Queen had called my name, making me turn around to face her again.

"Yes my Queen?" I could feel my heart racing as I awaited her response.

"Try and socialise at the school, not only with your cousins okay," The Queen argued against.

I nodded slowly before leaving the room and closing the door, the guards continue to stand in front of the door as I walked further away.

The walk made me reflect on the information I had just received. I was going to start school? I had so many questions and thoughts running through my head; would I fit in? Would I be able to catch up?

How would I be able to balance my studies with my other responsibilities? I was determined to make it work, and I knew I had to stay focused and work hard.

I haven't been in one of those unless you call standing in the Principal's office for ten minutes to get rejected from their school.

Opening my door with a hard push, I started to feel a spark of excitement in my chest. The rush of waking up to take your uniform from the drawer, quickly eating until you are full and running to the carriage.

I wouldn't know exactly how the feeling is but I've watched how my cousins would burst out of their room and declare that they are late mostly every day. Despite this, they still manage to make it to school on time, showing a remarkable level of determination and resilience.

To be able to do that myself and explore somewhere outside of the Palace was a miracle in itself.

But I can't focus on school, there is a ballroom celebration for the Queen's reign for 50 years and all relations of the Queen had to be there. This was a huge event and an important milestone for the Queen and her family, so it was a priority for them to attend and celebrate.

Including me somehow. Even though I am not related to her, I will try my best to pass the Queen's expectations. This is a difficult task, as the Queen is likely expecting all of her relations to attend the celebration and show their loyalty and respect. Furthermore, her expectations may be quite high, as she is marking a significant milestone in her reign....
