Word Count: 227

Note: The bold letters down the side and the last stanza (also in bold) form an acrostic and a 'message'

Calculating moves left right and center,

Hoping against hope that they won't find you out.

Evaluating every little thought before daring to speak.

Some secrets are revealed while others are kept close.

Slipping through people's defenses to find a lever.

Inquiring and smiling, keeping away any doubt,

Smiling and laughing, never letting your opponent find something to tweak.

Never letting them in, since they are all foes.

Over many obstacles must the knight leap.

Try to make it seem like your movement is straight and swift like the rook,

Just make sure they don't see the bishop's attack,

Unless you decide it's better to sacrifice a pawn.

Sometimes they slip past you, and leave you lying in a heap.

Tired or angry, sentiments can range from a river to a brook.

As long as you make sure to never slack,

Guarantees that your secrets are safe will be arranged before dawn.

Anything to beat your opponent.

Making necessary sacrifices,

Ensuring that your biggest secret, your king, is kept tucked away with a kiss.

Intricate plans and ways around problems to keep you from strife.

To let yourself get caught in a lie is a checkmate, a cruel descent.

It's imperative that it never happens, for you can only trust your devices.

Simply put, it's like playing chess, except it isn't just a game, it is,

Real life.
