Topic: Modified fairy tale (write about a fairytale, but put a twist on it)

Fairytale Chosen: Moana (Not a fairytale per se, but acceptable - Thanks again, Izzy!!)

Poem Name: The Girl and The Stone

Poem:

Long ago, the heart of Te Fiti was stolen.

The heart of the Earth was gone.

It was taken by Maui, a shapeshifter who didn't know what trouble he'd woken.

The power of Te Kā arose, bringing devastation.

Moana came later on.

Moana, the princess fascinated by the sea.

She could never do any sort of exploration,

She was to stay in Motunui.

Then she learned of the past.

She was descended from wayfinders.

Realising that her island could not last,

Moana left to search for Maui, with many hinders.

Finally, she found him.

Maui the demigod.

He said he would help if she fulfilled his whim:

Get his fish hook from Tamatoa and restore his powers, which were odd.

After many adventures, they reach Te Kā.

Their noble campaign is squashed.

Pride and power wounded, Maui flies away.

Moana, now alone, has been vanquished.

The heart of Te Fiti glows in her hand.

It had been given to her by her late grandmother.

The princess drops it into the water, and it lands softly in the sand.

The spirits of her ancestors come to comfort her.

Moana is now renewed with zest.

Diving into the water, she retrieves the heart.

She goes to complete the quest.

A new start.

Fighting to stay afloat, Moana slips past the island.

Focused on reaching Te Fiti, she doesn't see the danger.

A blast of fire, scorching water and land.

Moana is hit hard, and careens into the water.

Sinking to the bottom, Moana looks up.

The ocean is illuminated by the inferno above.

Eyes growing heavy, her heart slows its gallop.

Te Fiti's heart falls out of her hand, a frail dove.

Girl and stone,

Princess and heart.

Both are alone,

Lost to a cause that was doomed from the start.

Note: So this is Moana, following the same plotline up until the end - what would've happened if Maui didn't come back?
