CHAPTER | 08 | THE OTHER WOMAN

Start from the beginning

"Ha, ha, ha. Very funny." Shola replied. This time Shola was at her house Ikoyi, everyone of her friends and some family members lived in different locations in Banana island, including the second wife.

Shola was on her phone in the balcony, standing away from her sister in-laws: Pelumi, Tomiwa and Michelle, including a designer and a jeweler who were all seated in the third living room.

Looking back at them, she kept her voice low as casual, as the designer out brought rich fabrics and clothing prints of different shades related to the ceremonial colours, while the jeweler laid out expensive pieces of diamond, rubies, emerald, sapphire, onyx, and gold.

Money wasn't a problem for the Ajirotutu's, they spent it on whatever made them happy and whatever made them stand out from the crowd.

While her sister in-laws were busy flipping through magazines covers, discussing about the brands and pieces, they're wearing for the Alajika's & Otedola's Wedding, Mide could hear their voices underground. "Mom, where are you? it looks like you've got company." Mide said.

"Yes, actually you're aunties are here, they came over to visit." She lied, knowing fully well her sister-in-laws came over as soon as they heard their nephew was bringing home a South African girl.

"That's cool, please send my regards." Mide said as Shola hummed. "Won 'a gbo." She replied.

"So when are you bringing the girl you're seeing to Odunayo's wedding?" Shola questioned, waiting to hear her son's reply.

Mide sat up confused "Mmm?... actually Mom, i was literally just thinking about that... I meant to talk to you about me and....."

"Annika." Shola finished the sentence for him. She could tell Mide was quite shocked.

"How .....did.. you know?"

Shola scoffs. "How did i know? Everybody knows. It's no more news, It's on every blog on social media, that you're bringing a girl to Odunayo's wedding."

"Linda Ikeji's Blog." Mide said, rolling his eyes. Shola notices her assistant steward Madame Pat, was trying to eavesdrop. She removes the phone from her ear to one side.

"Pat what is it... Kilo de?"

"Erm madame, Weldon ma, i wanted to ask if oga will be coming here or going to small madame house because the chefs have finished cooking, so i want if they're to prepare his special dish." She asked, knowing fully well her madame was angry these days.

Shola eyes her from head to toe. "What days does Chief comes?" She questioned her servant, arching her brows.

Madame Pat, opened her fingers and started counting. "Mondays,.... Wednesdays,.... Fridays and erm Sundays ma." She bops her head. Shola regards her with a scorn.

"So you've forgotten my husband schedules or you're too blind to remember that he spends his nights here on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, abi iru question òshi wó l'on bi mi. Pat get out my sight before i fire you......" She scowled.

"Oshisko PLC." She hissed.

Pat knew Madame had known her tricks. "I'm so-sorry ma." She said, Shola waves her off, she bows and knees slightly, finding her way back to the kitchen while two servant comes to serve the guests small chops, grilled beef, cakes and refilling their glasses with champagne.

"Aunt Shola you need see these designs, I'm sure they'll suit you perfectly." Michelle Adefioye calls out in her British accent.

Shola turns to reply. "I'll be there in ten minutes, move on, I'll catch up." She replied with a loud voice and got back to the phone call with a low tone.

"Hello Ayomide....ehn ...as i was saying earlier on." She

"It seems Madame Pat got you angry." Mide said.

"Ma da loun jare, always asking irrelevant questions, I'll soon fire her, shà máwó." Shola said angrily.

"Oh no mum, please don't do that, she's being part of our family for years now and you always trusted her with us. She's a good woman." Mide complemented.

"And me? I'm not good Abi? Emi ti mó bi é, after nine months." Shola said with jealously in her tone. Mide laughed.

"Oh c'mon mum, you know you're irreplaceable, you're the best and i miss you so much," Mide teased, Shola couldn't help but grin. Yimu.

"Indeed you missed me, but you couldn't tell me nor your father about your relationship with the girl you engaged. Shó dá bé?" She queried him.

"I'm sorry mom, i was going to tell you sooner but with the social media fiasco, i......" He paused. "I'm so sorry, it wasn't my intention to keep you in the dark about my his fiancée. I'm so so so so so sorry Mom. I apologize. Ema binu." Mide said over the phone yet the mentioning of fiancée made Shola cringe. She was disappointed at him.

"Ò dá nó, We're looking forward to having you home. And your room is all ready....... for you." Shola said, Mide hears this, and gets the implication.

"Well Thanks, Mom, i really appreciate that, but Annika and I will be staying together at Transcorp at Lekki.." Mide said in his british accent.

Shiola gawks and exclaims. "Nibo? Aaah together ke! Ayomide Ajirotutu. Ki ló só? You want to bring your financée to a hotel?" Shola struggled to say that word, her voice was loud as her sister-in-laws, the designer and the jeweler looked at her direction curious. Shola sounded disappointed and unhappy.

"Mide what's bad if you bring her to your father's house, Abi are you hiding something or sho ti fun loyun, is she pregnant!" She snapped as the guests widened their eyes in shock and gasped. Pelumi looks at the designer and the jeweler with disdain, and asap, they both apologized and continued their works.

Mide laughed. "Oh no mom please stop, she's not pregnant." He tries to calm her down.

"Okay o, if you say so." She said, making another attempt to change his mind.

"I see. Well, I'm having the house redone. And it's not ready for guests yet.........." Shola explained.

"More reason if Annika comes, I think she might be more comfortable staying somewhere else?" Mide tries to convince her but Shola wasn't having it.

"Rà rà o.... I won't accept that. You're bringing her home Ayomide, that's the proper way every child does, don't forget your roots, òmó Yoruba niye, or do you want people to start talking about our family or you want my enemies to laugh at me?" She questioned.

"Already your grandma is furious about the news and now you want her to get an heart attack that you won't stay at home but in a hotel, mi o fé."

"You're bringing her home and that's it." Shola said over the phone. Mise couldn't help but agree, he didn't want to get into a disagreement with his mother.

"Okay mom, I'll bring her home." He accepted, she beamed joyfully.

"Very good, that's the right thing to do, now you're talking, omo dada. Oshe okomi, Wa sho rire. God bless you my son. How's work in the States?" She asked, Mide inhales. "It's good, business is fine, the company is progressing rapidly, stocks are high, I'm stressed a little bit, but then everything is going smooth." He replied.

"Well done my son, that's good to hear, I'm proud of you oko mi." She replied as Mide nods. "Thanks mom."

So when should we be expecting you?" Shola asked, refusing to mention the other woman.
