"Dad, I don't want to live your life!" Josh yelled, pulling on his hair. "You can't force me to marry some girl I've never even met! You won't even let me marry a prince if I wanted to because it changes the kingdom's opinion!" Josh's father simply sighed.

"I know, Joshua. But c'mon now. Go out there, it's your ball. Though your sea is a little bit smaller, there's still plenty of fish in the sea." Josh simply turned on his heel and ran out. Princess and princes alike gasped as he ran past them, but he didn't care. He needed out of that place, out of his head.

Once Josh had completely left the castle's doors, he ran down the small hill to sit on the edge of a rock and dangle his feet over the water. Here, it was peaceful, the only sounds being the soft breeze and the slight echo of the music still playing in the ballroom. Josh pulled his suit jacket tighter around him, wishing he'd thought to bring an actual jacket with him. It was rather chilly.

"Hey, dude? You alright?" Josh screeched as he heard the boy sticking his head out of the water and speaking to him. He slipped and fell off the rocks into the cold water. The boy caught him and cradled him into his chest, the prince shaking, now. Josh couldn't help but admit to himself, his savior was rather cute.

"What are you doing swimming? It's cold as frick out here. You're gonna get hypothermia." The boy released Josh from his arms (much to Josh's displeasure) and Josh pulled himself back onto the rocks, rubbing his arms to regain warmth.

"Yeah, yeah. Anywho, I'm Tyler. Who're you?" Josh raised his eyebrows. It was surprising but oddly comforting to know this boy had no idea who he was.

"Joshua Dun? The prince here? Ring any bells?" Tyler shook his head, chewing on his nails distractedly. "Hm, so you go swimming in the cold, catch falling boys, and have no idea who the prince in your own kingdom is? I'm intrigued." Tyler shook his head.

"I'm fully aware who the prince in my kingdom is." Josh's eyebrows furrowed.

"So, if this isn't your kingdom...why are you here? And swimming in the freezing water nonetheless?"

Tyler simply rolled his eyes, dipping back under water and flashing his tail at Josh. Josh's jaw dropped. "Duh? I'm one of the king's sons, but I'm not gonna be next in line, nobody seems to like the idea of my rule."

"You exist?" Tyler rolled his eyes, pulling himself up on the rocks next to Josh.

"Nah, this is a prosthetic." Josh laughed, staring down at the boys shimmering red tail. He didn't know why the shock wore down so quickly, but now he was just plain interested.

"Can you breathe underwater?" Josh asked, sounding like a child. Tyler laughed slightly. Josh couldn't help but to swoon.

"Yeah." He stretched his neck and inhaled so Josh could see his gills. Josh laughed, running his fingers through his hair.

"Sick! What's it like being a mermaid prince?" Tyler sighed.

"Just how I assume it is to be a human prince. And for your information it's merman...I'm not a female."

"How would I know? Both genders just have tails down there!" Josh paused for a moment as something came to mind. "You have no genitals, Tyler! Oh my God!" Josh started laughing hysterically as Tyler's face turned bright red and he smacked Josh's chest.

"For your information, there are a few things that make the difference between mermen and mermaids."

"Sure there are, Fish Boy." Tyler looked at Josh quizzically for a second and the second boy laughed.

"Like you wouldn't love to learn the difference with me." Tyler mumbled. Josh's laughter suddenly sputtered into a coughing fit, his face turning bright red.

"Tyler, shut up." He mumbled. Tyler smirked.

"But you are gay. Bi. Pan. Not sure which but I can tell when someone's eyeing me up."

"Tyler!" Tyler giggled, silently willing Josh's face to get redder.

"You're not denying anything." Tyler suddenly looked out at the sunset and slid back into the water, propping himself up with his elbows on the rocky shore. "Josh, I have to go." Josh's shoulders slumped. "Can I see you again?" Josh nodded, smiling brightly. Tyler simply stared at Josh for a moment before pulling himself up once more, his tail still in the water, and pressing his lips to Josh's cheek. "Goodbye, my prince."

Even minutes after Tyler left, Josh stared at the spot where he disappeared, hand pressed to his cheek. He was floating on Cloud-Nine. Or, in the water, rather.
