Eddie designed his denim vest on his own, since he doesn't have a mother figure to help him out with it.
Eddie researched how to sew from books and remembered a few techniques from art class, and used them to sew the Dio fabric on the back of his denim vest.
It took a few attempts and hours, but he eventually managed to get it right, and it paid off.
Eddie probably enjoyed sewing it and designing his own custom vest as he's quite a creative person, especially when it comes to being unique and using his imagination.
He definitely did the tongue thing the whole time he sewed, sitting on his bedroom floor cross legged with the vest draped across his lap.
