8 4 3

Get out your notebook

draw five short horizontal lines

then draw seven more

another five meets the confines

-

You witnessed a raindrop plop on the ground

express in your poem the sight smell and sound

reference the season It's in the rules

they don't give a reason They went to good schools

-

Use your fingers for the syllable count

make certain to use the exact amount

Provided your poem is perfectly unrhymed

it is now a haiku spit-polished and primed

-

Rip the page from the notebook

crumple and throw it away

find something better to do

with the remainder of your day
