You shoulder the man out of the way as you move past him. This is the worst. The literal worst. Why is Ben making you go with this jerk? You bet even Kamilla would understand. She's a reasonable person, at least you think so. Rami tugs you back by the elbow, gives you this curt smile to tell you to behave and escorts you out to his vehicle, which, by the way, is a freaking nice vehicle. You're glad he hadn't decided to come in his cop car, in order to not make too much of a scene. He's maybe classier than you thought. Maybe you'll take his for a joy ride instead. Your apprehensive heart feels like it's beating your rib cage to smithereens, and you just want to tell Rami that nothing he says or does is going to have any effect because you, in essence, are a good person (you don't obviously believe this but you hope you can sell this to him).
Before you can say anything to save yourself, he stops you and pins you against his car, eyeing you over, with just a hint of that amused smile still left. You give him a challenging glance and decide to go for it. "What? You trying to scare me? It's not gonna work. I've taken shit-faces much bigger than you."
Not a great start.
His menacing glance outpaces yours ten million to one. Like a bulldog to a chihuahua. Nervously, you laugh, hoping he takes your little challenge as a simple joke. "Here's what's going to happen, Cig. I'm going to frisk you for substances before you ever set foot near my car or my place. Then, once that's settled, I'll let you in, and we'll talk about what happened last time we met. And what should happen in the future."
You try to wriggle out of his grasp. "No." You need to stand your ground against this self-righteous monster before he thinks he can control you. He has no right. Here lies you, a stubbornly dense you, as you begin your rant. "Listen here, Rami. I'm an adult. And the last time we met, you narced on me like some coward. And what'll happen in the future is you're gonna drop me off with Kamilla and leave me the fuck alone. I don't need you."
This time his smile is genuine. "Oh, you say I'm the coward? You should've been the one to tell our parents. You should've been honest about the fact that you struggle with a smoking habit." His smile deadens into disappointment. "We could've all helped you. But instead, you were too chicken shit to do it. So I did it."
You struggle with all your might and even attempt to knee him in the nuts. To no avail. He's learned every move in the book. In fact, the only pain that occurs is yours as he pins you to the ground, holding your arms back. You kick backward, hoping to gain some sort of upper hand. This is when you lose your shit. "HOW COULD YOU? Why would you narc on me? I thought we were friends!" You try to remain in a rampage, however your anger begins to take on a distressed, hurt quality, and you know you've been bested. Defeated.
Rami's weight on you begins to ease up ever so slightly as he pauses. "Because you needed to get your head out of your ass, Cig. And so I did that for you."
"No, actually, you brought me to someone else who'd do your ass kicking for you. Are your parents your bitches or something?" You realize that you are now in the realm of talking trash, absolutely knowing that the only thing going for you are your words. Bark with no bite–absolutely nothing going on past your angry facade.
This earns you an ear twist, and you yell out in pain. "If you want an ass kicking from me, all you have to do is ask. I'll gladly oblige."
"Well, you are an arrogant prick, aren't you? Who made you boss?" Scoffing, you continue your mini-sermon. "Like you haven't done worse shit, Rami. What you did was totally unfair."
Your ear pulsates as he twists your ear further. You're pretty sure this isn't cop-approved technique, and you say as much. He just scoffs back at you.
"And what you did was totally unsafe. I'm a police officer, dude. I was not, and am not, saying that to scare or intimidate you. I'm saying that because safety is my literal job. And not to mention, I feel responsible for you. Mom and Dad trust me to keep you safe. To keep all the family safe. I am the oldest. I've got a lot on my plate, but I can be third parent when needed."
