Ben startles you awake with a techno trap beat. Because of course he would.
"Whaaaaaat?" You whine as you burrow deeper into your nest of blankets. "I don't need this right now."
Then he starts wrestling you out of them. Can you ever get a break from the guy? Seriously.
"It's time to get up. It's 7am. Have to be at work by 8:30am." Before you can argue, he states, "And by the way, I hope you know that you are very grounded. For a week. And I shall be keeping your phone for that week."
"Why?" You whine.
Ben huffs, obviously annoyed. "Why? Do I really have to explain that to you, Ciggy?"
Touché. Maybe he has a point. At least it's only for one week. You could handle that.
You decide to go for a grumbling "yes sir," remembering last night.
"Okay, get ready. My work doesn't appreciate tardiness." He claps to get you going.
You attempt to sit up but regretfully slam right back down at the immense discomfort in your backside. You both pretend to not notice the obvious soreness you're experiencing. "Okay but what does that have to do with me? You said I couldn't have a job, remember?"
Ben pauses to stare at the ceiling as if he is thinking. "Mm, actually, I think I said that your job is working to become a better person. Does that ring a bell?"
You want to give a smart ass comment, and even though Ben stated he would not spank for a simple comment, you really don't want to push it, not today. And you very much do not want a repeat of last night. In fact, you hope that no one brings last night up ever again, but you fear this will not be the case. You'll never live last night down, at least not according to your "siblings."
So you go with a standard, groaning, "Yes sir," again.
"Good. Now, c'mon, (Y/N), I said 'up,'" Ben says, with a nudge to your side.
"Well, I'd like to know where we're going at least. Where's your work? A coal mine or something?" You mock.
Ben sits on your bed, more like collapses. "Dude, is it just too hard to accept that life holds surprises?"
You sit in silence, staring the other down, before Ben concedes and tells you. "Alright, fine. I'm taking you with me to shadow me at the Honda car dealership—and before you say, 'oh that's boring,' I think you'd like to know that it's actually pretty fun. I'm in charge of some pretty sweet looking rides, and I do get discounts on them. Quite the perk. And don't say stuff like, 'oh so a greedy, dirty, thieving, conniving, used car salesman,' because I'm not. They are actually nice cars."
You feign a suspicious look. "Sure sounds like you're sort of defensive about it. Like you're hiding the fact that you actually hate it."
Ben rolls his eyes while he hoists you up by your palms. You wince as you carefully make your way out of bed. This is going to get old, so you better not make it a habit of getting your ass pummeled, unless you're not planning on getting out of said bed. You give your mentor a sorrowful gaze, one that remembers how he broke your walls again, and he reflects the gaze back at you. He knows how to get through to you, and this makes you feel extremely self-conscious and transparent. You hate his fucking mind games.
Warmly, casually, the man tips your head on his shoulder and clasps his arm around you. There's no going back to where you were before. You've made some sort of new ground where an unspoken comradery lies between you, where you just understand each other. Understanding is one thing though; trust is a different beast. You do wonder if this is going to be your "new normal," where you simply accept his affection. With one peck on your head, he leaves you be to get dressed and ready, pointing at his watch on his way out. "Forty minutes. Then I want to see you eating breakfast and being social with Kamilla."
