2. Hope: An Acrostic
(10/3/08)

Hope is a state of mind under an illusion, an
Evil, deceitful, back-stabbing, treacherous lie.

Why Pandora? Why haven't you unleashed Hope upon this world? *
How is Hope not like other worldly torments?
Or is Hope the most hideous of all hellish torments, for it

Lies not in the secular world of the physical, but
In the sacred core of every individual?
Venus is Hope's only rival in divine beauty, providing
Eternal, temporary bliss under severe conditions, as it
Shows its face like a white light in the darkness.

Untouchable yet undeniable, Hope commands one's attention,
Pulling away or concealing present dangers
Or doubts you may have about choosing your own fate.
Neither fear nor task surmounting the other,

His or her imaginary court rages in the mind.
One questions oneself until an outside thought creeps in,
Permitting that person to act upon hope with pure instinct.
Evil and enigmatic is Hope, for its motivations may be good or bad,

Whispering voices of confidence or guilt that fill one's thoughts;
It may be the only force that keeps you from surrender,
Leaving you to contend with your personal ills; so
Let your own self-afflictions drag on, because

Depending on your situation or condition,
Its lofty wings can carry you toward triumph.
Even so, Hope is forever elusive, dangerous and

Frustrating, for many dreams have been brought to its doorstep
And die there, torturing the human soul.
Strangely, Hope arouses a notion of aspiration and humanity,
That masters know their limits yet legends never die, as
If to dare us to be more than ourselves.
Never give in and give up, says Hope, who is forever immortal, for it
Guides us through the straight and narrow path to salvation.

He who lives upon hope will die fasting.
—Benjamin Franklin

A/N: If you haven't noticed, I love acrostics. They're so much fun to write!
