84. Melting

AUTHOR'S POV:

After hearing the declaration of Rumbling, the Eldians outside the walls arrived at the real world again.

All of them flinched and gasped, shaken.

"What was that strange place?"

A shop owner looked at Mr. Leonhart who was still sitting on his knees. "Are you all right, Mr. Leonhart?"

"Yeah... Did you hear that?" Mr. Leonhart said with a frightening expression. "The Titans are leaving that island to come kill us."

The Wall titans kept marching with loud thuds in a slow pace.

At Eren's command, the Wall titans were avoiding houses. So, the Wall titans of Wall Maria turned to their right and marched in the same lane where they once used to stand, causing no destruction to the houses.

Abandoning his titan, Reiner was limping along with Gabi, searching for Falco.

Gabi was carrying the anti titan rifle.

"Falco!" Gabi called out, looking around. "Falco! Where are you?! Where'd you go?!

"The first Titan transformation knocks you out and impacts your memories." Reiner said, cluching his shoulder. "He's taken."

Gabi looked at him in panic. "By who?! Why?!" Gabi asked.

"Probably Jean, Connie and Faye." Reiner replied and took a deep breath. "They wouldn't overlook a life as valuable as Falco's." He winched in pain and closed his eyes. "Being one of the Nine Titans, he's too important to-" He fell to his knees and on the ground.

Gabi ran towards him. "Reiner! Did you use all your powers?!" She kneeled before him

Reiner tried to get up. "Yeah. My armor came undone somehow and a piece of the wall hit me real good." He clenched his fist. "I couldn't stop it."

"Huh?" Gabi said.

Reiner got up a bit. "Eren... Will destroy the world."

Gabi gasped at the realisation.

Reiner somehow reached a home along with Gabi.

Reiner slided down the wall and sat there as steam was emitting from his back.

Gabi closed the door.

"In the south... there're escape airships." Reiner said. "Go find Pieck or our soldiers... and escape." He looked at Gabi. "You have to hurry... and tell Marley. No, the world."

"What will telling them do? Where's there to run?" Gabi asked with furrowed eyebrows.

Reiner looked and gasped.

"My Mom, Dad, Aunt Karina... Won't everyone die?" Gabi asked.

"Yes." Reiner replied.

"We've gotta kill Eren and stop him!" Gabi shouted.

"We can't." Reiner said. "The Founding Titan can make all Titans and Subjects of Ymir obey its will. No-one can stop him now. We can't do anything but run." He closed his eyes and fell unconscious.

Gabi gasped. "Reiner..." She furrowed her eyebrows and went to the sink. She picked up a hair tie and began to tie her hair. "Like hell I'm giving up!" She looked at herself in the mirror. "I'm coming for you, Falco." She left the house.

Mikasa, Armin, Faye, Connie and Jean were on a rooftop while titan kept marching.

Jean was tying a cloth on a unconsious Falco's mouth. "It's over. I never thought he'd slaughter everyone beyond the walls. Once they die off, so will all the hate." He finished tying up. "Everyone who threatened our existence will be flattened, leaving nothing but empty plains. What the world feared more than anything has happened. All because they labeled us devils and tried to slaughter us. In other words, this is something they brought upon themselves." He looked up at them. "There was nothing we could do, right?"
