I was teetering on the edge of losing control right in front of everyone. From my peripheral vision, I saw Mia stiffened at the sight of Chase and fucking toots. Astoria. WHAT THE FUCK. I stifled the rage growing at lethal succession. Not now. This can wait. I reminded myself of what a slip of self control could cause.

Astoria's were yet to land on me. They were firmly planted on Chase, he leaned down to whisper in her ears. My blood boiled at the sight of them together.

"There he is." I heard Cade Henry's voice in the background. "Son." He called for Chase.

Until that moment, Astoria was oblivious to my eyes shooting daggers her way. I saw her big powder blue eyes widened. I bet she wasn't expecting to be sat at the same table as me and my parents. Neither was I.

All traces of color vanished from her face. She looked reluctant to follow Chase, but she eventually couldn't stall the inevitable. My insides clenched at the thought of enduring a dinner with both Astoria and my parents. There weren't many events that brought her and my father in the same breathing room.

Blake Trent was famous for being an asshole. He was an untamed wolf back in wall street when he first started working. It takes a great amount of assholery to become the man he is today. There was no room for hiding when you're under his capacity.

I had done my fucking best to shield Astoria from the ludicrous vicinity of the wealthy people. People like her were seen as the scum between their toes. Now, my soon-to-be ex-best friend had put her in the spotlight in front of those very people.

Momentarily, I spotted that fucking cunt Gabriella with Ares. She was trying to seduce him and it may work in her favour, but wait till gently pluck out her cheerleader wings. I mentally prepared my hit list.

I glared at both of them, but most importantly, my anger was solely fixated on Astoria. She knew better than to allow an almost stranger to be her date. It was reckless of her and now she'll have to lay in her own grave. I won't help her out of it.

"Hello, everyone." Chase greeted upon arrival. "I am not late, am I?" I could read the cynicism behind his tone. This was a big joke to him. To get a rise out of me.

He leaned down to meet his father in a half-hug, then moved to greet his step-mother whose guts he openly hated, but he knew how to keep pretense in public. He air kissed Mia, squeezing her shoulder. Whilst Astoria stood awkwardly where he had left her.

My eyes never once wavered from her. I wanted to go up to her and remind her the fact that it was me, I was alone who had her entirely. She was my woman who shouldn't be parading herself in the arms of men who weren't me. It was that simple yet she blatantly disregarded it.

She righted her black rimmed glasses that appeared far too big on her face. If that didn't make her stand out of the crowd, then I'd be damned. She looked so naive, beautiful in her pretty white embroidered dress. I could feel myself get aroused. Just a single glance at her was enough to undo my whims.

Chase shook hands with my father and greeted my mother in a half-hug. He completely bypassed me, and went straight to Astoria. He clasped her soft, delicate hand in his hold and turned to us.

"Please, everyone, meet Astoria Emerson. She's my date for the evening," He announced with a little too glee in his eyes for my liking.

Everyone's attention landed on her. I watched mom for her reaction. A flash of recognition displayed on her face. Of course, she knew who Astoria was. She had saved Astoria from my childish warth the very first time we had met and she was served plenty of beverages from Astoria over the years. My father showed no signs of reaction. If anything, he was disinterested enough to not spare her a glance.
