There is alot of alternate universes of Ash even Smarter Ash AUs.
This time this Ash does not want to become Pokemon Master (or lacks of the motivation to become one) instead just travels around the world and catch more Pokemon than his anime canon...
Ash picks up a Pokeball with raindrop symbol on it which in burst of light from the Pokeball reveals a Squirtle, the Tiny Turtle Pokemon.
"Squirtle!"
The boy smiled of his starter which he lift it up and said "Hey Squirtle, I am your new trainer" To which Squirtle give a cry of joy
Now with Gary, he picked up a Pokeball but with a leaf symbol on it "Well I'll take this one then" Like Squirtle, It reveals a Bulbasaur, the Seed Pokemon. The Seed Pokemon looks up to his trainer in curiosity which the trainer grinned of his starter.
"Now you two have your Pokemon received, I give you something for your journey" Which Prof. Oak presented this:

(Author's note: It's a FRLG Kanto Pokédex) "Here in my hand is my invention, a Pokédex, It automatically records data on Pokemon you've have seen or caught. It has also many functions when using it such as they're learned move set and more" "Now Ash and Gary take this with you" Which the boys received they're dexes from the Professor's hand
Then Ash remembered something... "Wait wasn't there other two trainers starting journey?" He questions the Professor
"Hmm come to think about, They're supposed to be 4 of you but the other two aren't here. What are they're names again? I think Leaf and Trace?"
In a right timing, The doors kicked open to the sides which two enters the lab
" *huff* *huff* I...made it" saids a girl with brown long hair that reaches halfway down wearing a black sleeveless T-shirt, wearing sky blue short jeans and wearing black sneakers (Author's note: It's Green from the Let's Go games or the female protag from FRLG)
"*huff* No...fair" said boy which he collapses from the ground on knees in exhaustion. He has brown hair with 4 long strands on top, wears a black long turtle neck, wearing green and black pants, wearing long black socks and red and white shoes. (Trace also from the Let's Go games, the rival)
"You two are late" said the Professor clearly upset
Both of them apologize of being late which the Professor forgive them and remind them not to that next time
"Is they're any Pokemon left, Professor?" Leaf asked to Professor fearing they aren't any Pokemon
"Well... we have one which is-" The Professor was interrupted by the girl sprinting across the Pokeball with a fire symbol on it "GIMME!" She picks up the last Pokeball which reveals Charmander, the Lizard Pokemon.
"Charmander!" said a happy Charmander seeing her new Trainer "Aww you're so cute" Which Leaf proceeds to per her Pokemon which the lizard smiled
But for Trace... "Hey Professor is there-" he asked the Professor fearing for the worst "I'm afraid there is any more Pokemon available" the Professor tells Trace "WHAT!?" shouted Trace because he didn't get to have a Pokemon meaning not going on a Journey.
