"You're drop-dead gorgeous, sweetheart."

Floris and I were already half-way there before he asked my name.

"Oh, it's Andrew."

"Ah."

We exchanged small talk while we walked, and finally we made it. I climbed through the broken-in doors, and offered Floris a hand.

"What a gentleman, thank you."

We stood in the entrance room, where the concession stand used to be. Floris grinned and spun in a circle.

"This isn't quite what I expected, but I like it a lot."

Unable to help myself, a smiled. Floris glanced at me and smiled even wider.

"Have you seen the ceiling? It's so tall and has such a wonderful pattern!"

I scratched at my neck.

"Honestly, it just looks like a red and white checkerboard."

He nodded.

"Yeah, it does kind of look like that."

We stood there for a few moments, then he turned.

"I want to look around some more."

I nodded.

"I'm going to make a call really quickly, then I'll join you."

"Sounds good!"

I waited until I couldn't hear his footsteps anymore, then typed in his name with shaky fingers.

He picked up immediately.

"Clay?"

I rubbed my face.

"God, it feels so good to hear your voice again."

George didn't say anything for a moment.

"I'm sorry."

He was silent for another moment.

"I know it doesn't mean much, but I wanted to tell you. I'm just so sorry."

"George-"

"I love you."

Neither of us said anything.

"I love you to-"

Stabbing pain.

So much blood.

I saw a knife dropped in front of me.

I was on the ground. When did that happen?

Knees bent. Floris looked at me, then scoffed.

"That was much easier than expected."

I glared at him, my senses sharpening again.

With my left hand, I snatched the bloody knife in front of me, and with my right I pulled the gun from my waistband.

He wasn't looking. His back was facing me.

Mistake.

With a shaking hand, I raised my gun and fired three times, hitting him squarely in the back.

He fell over.

"You're drop-dead gorgeous," I coughed, spitting blood onto the ground.

I scrabbled for my phone, but my hands were slippery from the blood. I managed to grab it and put it up to my ear.

"George?" I whispered hoarsely.

"Clay, thank fuck. Were those gunshots?"

"Yeah. It's oka-"

I was cut off by violently coughing, spitting too much blood onto the tile.

"Clay?" He asked timidly. "Are you okay?"

"He got me."

"Who?"

"F- Floris."

He didn't say anything for a moment.

"That's Fundy."

"Oh," I mumbled.

"Where did he get you? Tell me where you are."

"Lung. Old theater."

"Shit, I'm on my way there, please hold on."

"George-"

"Save your strength, I'm coming."

"You won't make it in time."

"N- no! You're going to be okay. You'll be fine. I'm going to be there soon, and I'll help you, and you'll be okay."

"Baby, I love you."

"C- Clay, please."

"I love you so much, and I'm sorry I'm such an idiot and a fuckup."

"You're not!" He sobbed.

I coughed even more. I could barely breathe.

"George, I love you. I'll see you later."

"Clay!"

 Everything faded.

I murmured "I love you" over and over again, and then my heartbeat stopped.
