mels pov:
we were sitting in the backrooms of scoops
ahoy, playing the russian tape on repeat. i had just finished writing the russian alphabet on the whiteboard and now we had to translate it.

steve was chewing a banana when robin yelled his name. the tape ended and dustin turned ir off, "so what do you think?" he asked both of us as if we were supposed ro rate it like a 5 star movie.

steve suddenly said "it sounds familiar" i instantly turned my head in confusion and so did dustin. "what?" we both said at the same time, "the music- the music right there at the end" my confused face turned into an annoyes face.

"why are you listening to the music steve?" i said, dustin agreeing with me saying "listen to the russian we're translating russian-" steve cut off dustin saying "im trying to listen to the russian but theres mus-" robin bursted into the room

"alright baby sitting time is over you need to get in there- hey my board that was important data shitbirds" i lookes to my fidgety hands, feeling bad that i earsed her stuff, "hey that was mel who earsed it" steve said i looked up and instantly defended myself- "you made me earse it i specifically said 'robins going to be mad' and you instead i do it anywa-"

dustin cut me off, "i guarantee you, what we're doing is way more important than your data" steve tossed his banana peel onto the table and robin started talking again.

"yeah? and how do you know these russians are up to no good anyways?" dustin and stev both instantly turned to me "you told her seriously?" steve said, "i told you it was top secert" dustin said annoyed.  "me? what i didnt say anything" steve put on a face and you could tell by just his expression alone that he didn't believe me, "it wasnt!" i said defending myself,

we were jambling on and trying to make them believe me. robin interrupted "hello, i can hear you, actually i can hear everything, you all are extremely loud. you think you have evil russians plotting against our country on tape, and you're trying to translate but you haven't figured out a word because you didnt realize russians use an entirely different alphabet. sound about right?"

dustin and steve stood there in disbelief and i sat there thinking about how soothing her voice sounded, that was probably the longest ive heard her ramble on for without interruptions.

robin then reached out trying to grab the tape, steve very quickly reached out and grabbed it before she could, "WOAH what do you think your doung?!" steve asked, "i wanna hear it" robins sweet voice said "why?" dustin and steve asked at the same time, while i was still in my relm of thoughts.

"cause maybe i can help- im fluent in four languages you know" i never realized how smart she was until now, in my thoughts.

"russian?" dustin asked, "ou-yay are-yay umb-day" she replied, dustin and steve happily laughed somehow thinking it was russian even though russian sounds nothing like that. "thats pig-latin dingis" she said making me think even more, why am i thinking this god damn much about her.

"but i can speek spanish and french and italian, and ive been in band for 12 years. my ears are little geniuses trust me" i already knew about that, she had told me about her language knowledge, i also knew french so it was fun talking to her in french about steves hair or random shit, and you could already tell she was in band by just looking at her.

robin was now sitting next to me in the chair, "come on its your turn to sling ice cream and your turn to translate, i dont even want credit im just bored" robin reached her hand out handing the slinger to steve and steve giving her the tape and steve left the room.

robin turned to me and looked confused, she dropped her scoops ahoy hat on the table and said my name- "hey, mel" i was still staring at my hands on my lap i looked up and looked at her "yeah?" i replied- "you okay?" she asked, "why wouldnt i be?" i said half asking half stating, "i dont know, you just seem off" she looked concerned and worried,
