"Have you seen how many carbs they put in these drinks?" My best friend Tiffany holds up her soda. We just finished getting out food in the lunch line and walk outside to find somewhere to sit. I have two best friends, Tiffany Cadula and Serenity Mixon.

"Tiff." I groan. "You're not fat, okay?"

"God, Al. Whats with the stick up your ass?" She raises an eyebrow.

"I don't have one." I look around, trying to find him. Ever since the dance on friday all I've been able to think about was Jason. What is it about him? How have I not noticed him before? He told me that we're in a class together. Maybe it's because I've been so absorbed with Kyle that I never noticed anyone else. Thinking about Kyle makes me bristle. What was with that crap he pulled at the dance? How dare he tell me who I'm allowed to talk to or not. He acted like Jason was some jerk who would break my heart but he was nothing like that. Thinking about Jason makes my heart soar.

"I know that smile." Serenity says, meeting us as we sit down at a table. "Okay. Who is he?" She smiles at me as she sits down next to Tiff, across the table from me.

"Who?" I try to fake innocence.

"I know that face. You're thinking about a guy." She frowns. "It's not Kyle, right? Because I thought we agreed that you're better off without-"

"It's not Kyle." I sigh. I have to tell them. "You remember over-hearing that girl in Algebra who was talking about Lily Smith's older brot-"

"Jason? The hottie? Yes! What about him?" They were both staring at me, expectantly.

"Well I met him at the dance and-" I trailed off because right then I saw Jason laughing with a group of seniors. He's so gorgeous, my breath catches in my throat and it's hard to breathe. He has long brown, shaggy hair, a smile that is so contagious you can't help but smile back. His cheeks are sculpted like a greek god's would be. He looks like a god. He rounds about 6'2 and has a very lean but fit body. Gorgeous green eyes that will capture you and never let you go.

"Alice." Serenity hisses. "Quit staring. God, your such a freak sometimes."

"Sorry." I blush but I can't look away. He suddenly looks over at me and I watch with horror as his eyes turn cold. "Um, I'll be right back." I get up before they can say anything else and hurry over to where he's sitting. "Hi. Can I talk to you?" I stare at him, not even noticing any of the guys. In the sun I can see the streaks of blond in his brown hair, there's only a few but I still can't believe that I didn't notice them before. I recognize a few of my brother's friends from the football team. Wait, Jason's on the football team, isn't he? I'll have to ask him about it but I'm pretty sure that he's the quarterback.

"I'm busy Alice." He glares at me.

"Please?" I beg him.

He sighs then gets up and follows me over to a bench where we'll have some privacy. "What do you want?"

"Um, I wanted to talk." I stare down at the ground.

"About what?" I look up to see that he's gritting his teeth. That makes my heart ache. Does he really not want to be around me?

"What's wrong with you?" I whisper. "I thought we were having fun at the dance, I thought- I thought you could feel the connection." I swallow and my voice grows fainter and fainter as I see the look in his eyes.

"Well, I didn't." He glares at me.

"But- but you said-"

"I lied Alice!" He jumps up. "God, you're so stupid! You think that everyone will like you just because you're so sweet and innocent? Well they don't. All guys want from you is sex. That was all I wanted. I was trying to get in your pants. Okay? And you fell for it because you're just a stupid, naive, little girl." It feels as though I've been punched in the stomach a hundred times. Tears fill my eyes and I don't even try to hide them. I don't even notice the crowd that gathered around us. I jump up and run. I run past where Kyle stands, watching us, eyes narrowed. I run past where my brother reaches out for me. I run past everyone. I run to the bathroom and ignore Tiffany and Serenity calling my name. I ignore everything. I slide down the wall of the bathroom stall and sob. I ignore Tiff and Serenity as they come and try to comfort me. I don't care what they say. I thought he was different.
