"No, I haven't been able to remember or figure out anything about it." Bonnie rolled her eyes at Damon's flippant tone before holding her hand out.
"Here give it to me, I'll see if I can read anything off of it." Damon moved to take it off before he paused. His hand rested on the pendant but, it was as if a voice was telling him to leave it there.
The voice was calling out and telling him not to take the pendant off as it was too dangerous. 'Why?' Damon called out to the voice in his head. It remained silent to his question as he let his hand fall back to his side.
"Damon. C'mon, give me the pendant. We need to figure out what's so special about it." Bonnie demanded as she watched the 164-year-old vampire. Swallowing thickly, he looked around the room at everyone's expectant looks.
"If I can't find out what's so special about it. Then, I'm sure a baby witch like yourself, won't be able to either. Now, if you'll excuse me I have a meeting with the town council." Damon's eyes glanced over the room as he headed out the door.
As soon as he was outside, Damon bolted into the forest leaving little trace that he had even been there. The council wasn't meeting for another few hours but, he just had to get out of that house.
It was suffocating being given distrustful looks like he was lying about knowing Klaus or knowing where the pendant came from.
Every time he looked at it, he felt as if he should know where it came from. It was as if the answer was on the tip of his tongue but, whenever he got close enough to grasp it, it would slip right from his fingers.
Glancing around, he realized he had ended up near the tomb where Katherine had been locked up before he and Elena had been taken.
Rose hadn't known why Klaus had wanted him and neither had Elijah when he came to get them. Did that mean Katherine wouldn't know? Normally, he wouldn't trust a word that came from her mouth but, he was getting desperate for answers.
Answers that it seemed no one in Mystic Falls had to give.
'Well, I'll just have to take her words with a grain of salt.' Damon thought as he took the stairs down to the tomb two at a time.
Stealing himself, Damon pulled open the door to the tomb and was greeted with the expected sight.
Katherine was sitting near the entrance of the tomb; her skin was slowly turning grey around the edges and she looked as if the smallest breath caused her the greatest pain.
Damon tried to feel sympathetic on her behalf but, the only thing he could feel was satisfaction as he watched her.
She had caused him pain for 165 years and this felt as if it was a decent punishment for all the torment, she had put him through.
"Hello, Katherine." Damon's voice was soft like velvet but had an edge that was sharp as a knife when he spoke to her. "Damon." Katherine's voice cracked as she stared at him, "Let me guess you found out that I was telling the truth about someone coming for your precious Elena.
"A sarcastic smirk slowly graced his face before it became overtaken with anger.
"What about me? Didn't feel like sharing that bit of information?" Damon spit out as she started to stand up to meet his eyes. Confusion, caressed Katherine's eyes as she seemed to realize she was missing something.
"What about you?" "You didn't tell me that Klaus wanted me as well as Elena. What did it just complete escape your mind?" Damon's voice carried a sarcastic edge that built up to anger.
"No, No. I- There was nothing to suggest he wanted you Damon. I- I didn't know. If what your suggesting is true and that is a big if. I'd tell you to get out of town before he found out you were here." Katherine could not put a finger on why Klaus wanted the young vampire standing in front of her.
He wasn't a doppelganger, a witch, or a werewolf. The only thing that made sense to her was that he wanted him for the vampire sacrifice but, why him when Klaus could get his hands onto any vampire in the world.
"Can't really leave town right now Kat. Not with Klaus also being after Elena. However, if you want to be a little informative, you can tell me if you've seen a pendant like this before." Damon held up the pendant around his neck.
Katherine's blood ran cold as she saw it, their was only a few people she had seen with a pendant like that and the last time she had seen it was over a century ago.
"Where did you get that?" Katherine whispered backing up slowly as she took in the white gold M that seemed to stand out clear as day.
"Why does everyone, want to know where it came from? I don't know. Based on the look on your face though, it means something. Something that could explain why Klaus is looking for me and wants me." Damon glared at Katherine as if daring her to remain silent.
"That's the Mikaelson family crest, Damon. You shouldn't have it unless..." Katherine trailed off as she analyzed the vampire in front of her with new eyes. "Unless?" Damon asked with a slight growl in his voice.
"Unless you've been claimed by one of them." Katherine's voice came out in a whisper. "Who are the Mikaelson's?" Damon watched as Katherine shook her head and bolted to the back of the tomb. That was the end of getting answers from her, it was like she was afraid of whomever the pendant represented.
The stupid thing just kept bringing him more problems than solutions and if it weren't for the fact that he felt like he couldn't take it off, he would have already chucked it into the nearest river.
Pausing, Damon stood in the middle of the forest silently. There was something there he was sure of it but, the only sounds he could now hear was the chirping of the birds. As he continued walking the uneasy feeling that had settled into his blood, hadn't gone away.
It was becoming obvious to him that something was attempting to follow him. The question was, what or who was it?
