"Get your dirty hands off me!" Rider growled, struggling to get out of the soldier's tight grips, but one behind him prodded him with a cattle prod. Rider gritted his teeth against the pain, and his vision went blurry. I need to get out of here. "I'll crush you, you hear me?!" Rider snarled as the soldiers chained him up against a wall of a large gray room.
There were two chairs in the room, with white bulky helmets over them. A red sigh hovered above the door. "Test Chamber 1: Mind Transformation"
The soldiers strapped Rider in one of the chairs and fastened one of the white metal helmets on his head. Rider struggled to get out of the straitjacket the soldiers had put on him, and snarled at the lady who entered the room. She was a human, had a lab coat on, and curly brown hair and she smiled, "Hello, Rider. We're just going to go through a few clips and images from footage in that brain of yours." She tapped the helmet on Rider's head, and he bared his teeth at her. The lady sat down in the other chair, put on the other helmet, and pointed a remote at a large projector over their heads.
The projector started projecting a clip on the far wall, and Rider glanced at it. It was a video of Inktropolis, his home. "How did you get this?" Humans have never known about this place, and they shouldn't know about it either.
"These are all memories in your brain. We are using this to get information about your species, so we can..." she trailed off. "Nevermind, sweets. Let's continue." Next were four blue inklings, all smiling and talking to him. My... friends? He recognized them at once. Specs, Headphones, Goggles, and...
Rider whipped his head to the doctor, "What did you do to Bobble Hat?" His voice was icy cold. "Calm down, she's here." The projector shifted to the security footage of the lab. The sign "Test Chamber 2: Gas Resistance" The room was split in half by a large glass pane. Bobble Hat was on one side, and that orange inkling from before was on the other side. Bobble Hat was sprawled on the floor, crying and shaking, as green gas filled her side of the glass. The orange inkling was banging against the glass, yelling and pleading for Bobble Hat to get up and resist it. "Bobble Hat?!" Rider sputtered.
The footage then fast-forwarded, then stopped as black gas started filling the Orange inkling's side. He flinched, and then withered on the floor, convulsing and twitching. Bobble Hat had a hand over her mouth, crying, calling the inkling's name. Then, the inkling twitched, stayed still, then suddenly, something extraordinary happened. Black shadows in the form of tentacles came out of his back, crawling up the walls, and then one lashed at the camera, and everything went black.
"What the-" Rider muttered out loud.
The lady, who was also watching the live feed, stood up, obviously not knowing about this, because the surprise was written all over her face. "I'll be right back, Rider." She motioned for the soldiers to follow her, and hurries out of the room, closing the door behind her, and Rider was left alone in the empty room.
I need to get out of here. Fast.
Observing the room, Rider looked down at the chair he was strapped in. Grunting, Rider leaned down, gripping at one of the straps fastening him in with his teeth. He tugged, tugged, and tugged until he thought his teeth would fall out, until the strap broke free, and then he worked on the other two. Once the last strap ripped free, Rider tumbled out of the chair. Unable to use his arms, Rider fumbled with the straitjacket but huffed with frustration when the straps wouldn't budge.
He didn't have time for this now, his only focus now was the door.
Rider approached the door, turned into his squid form, and slid under the door. Checking for guards, Rider popped out of his Squid form. It would be very awkward if anyone saw him casually slide under the door. Running towards the door, he felt a surge of hope.
Im getting out of here!
Then he paused.
Wait.
My friends. I need them.
He couldn't live without them.
But he turned back to the door.
But... he was so close...
Screw it.
Rider ran down the hall, turned a corner, and ran towards the closest lab.
The escape would have to wait.
