"Honk!" Goose honked, leading Nero through a beautiful jungle.
As they walked, Nero watched the pretty birds of all sorts of colors fly through the trees, the rare and colorful fruits hanging from the trees that seemed to touch the clouds. The sunlight that cast a speckled pattern across the mossy floor, the gentle gurgle of the river, and the roar of the waterfalls.
"Hey," Nero called to the goose. I seriously need a name for him. "Can we stop and rest? I need food." Why am I talking to a goose?
Surprisingly, the goose sat down on the moss. Surprised, Nero climbed a mango tree, and selected three large ripe mangos before sliding down.
With the goose sleeping, Nero decided to take a short walk through the rainforest. Maybe check out the waterfalls? As he walked, he noticed a house. An abandoned house. It was wrecked. It was a nice house, with two floors, a pretty light beige color with a darker colored roof. Curious, Nero peeked into the house, looked around for danger, then explored the first floor.
The kitchen was nice, if you counted out all the vines breaking through the floor and walls and every crack and corner of the house. Looking around, Nero acknowledged that 60% of the first floor was just the kitchen. Running his hands along the staircase rails, Nero approaches the second floor, which is a hallway with at least half a dozen stairs. Approaching the closest door, Nero walked into a bedroom. Maybe it was a bedroom? Nero couldn't tell. The entire room was so overgrown with vines and leaves and plants, Nero couldn't tell if the big lump in the corner was a bed or not. Approaching the bed(?), Nero sat down on it, then noticed a desk.
The desk had a photo. Blowing the dust off the photo, Nero stared at a girl. An Inkling, to be exact. She had light green hair, golden/orange eyes, and she wore a kimono. The second photo (that Nero just noticed half a second ago) had a human boy, with curly brownish hair, a white sweater, hazel eyes, and an orange mask. the word "hjonk" was written on the picture in black marker. The third (and final) photo has two figures in it, the first figure was a girl.
"An Octoling... like me?"Nero whispered, shocked.
The octoling was taller than the inkling next to her. She had dark brown tentacles that faded to blue, she had lovely dark skin, earl grey eyes, a very short black tank top with a zipper, and black shorts with blue leggings. Her fingertips were blue.
The Inkling had short blonde tentacles that faded to pink, pale shin, golden eyes, and a giant zipper on her top. her top was a white dress-like shirt with no sleeves, pink leggings, and black boots. The name "Opal" was scribbled next to her, and the name "Piper" was written next to the octoling. Nero turned the frame over, half expecting nothing to be there, but something was written in the corner in green marker:
"We'll always be here for you, Nero. That's what sisters do."
Nero dropped the frame with a gasp.
And at that moment, Nero saw something at the corner of his vision.
A shape.
A bright shape shaped like Piper.
"Piper?" Nero whispered, reaching to touch her.
His hand fell right through her. Jumping back with a yelp, Nero noticed that vines in the room were gone. He could clearly see the plain old room and the bed, but the photo was gone.
Is this... a memory?
