Is this a memory?
Nero stared at the memory of his sister standing in front of him. Piper was holding a photograph in her hands, staring down at it. the photo was of Nero and the kimono inkling together, smiling. A tear trickled down Piper's cheek, and, trembling, held the photo so tight the glass frame cracked. Dropping the frame and the photo with a CRACK, Piper headed over to her desk and scribbled down something on a piece of paper. Leaning over her, Nero read the note:
Please don't look for me. Im doing what needs to be done.
Confused, Nero glanced back at Piper, but she was gone. The memory faded, and Nero was back in the vines.
"Honk! Honk! Honk!" Goose's honks were starting to get on Nero's nerves. "Alright, Im coming!" Nero yelled out the window. Grabbing the photos of his sisters and the kimono inkling, he put his hand off the desk and noticed something shiny in one of the open drawers. A collar. The name Oliver was on the tag. Stuffing the collar in his cloak pocket, Nero exited the house and found goose pacing by the door. Goose noticed Nero and started reciting The FitnessGram Pacer Test in honks. Goodness, gracious. Nero chuckled, then reached into his pocket, pulled out the collar, and fastened it onto goose's neck. What happened next reminded Nero of an anime show he liked to watch: Goose stared down at the collar, looked back at Nero, let out a cute honk, and stared at him with shining anime-like eyes.
"Oliver" Nero smiled. I Like that name. "Come on, let's go home." Oliver let out an agreeing honk, and lead Nero through the jungle, away from the old house, away from his only memory of his sister.
---
Nero sat in the entrance of the cave he and Oliver were resting in, his hands curled around his knees. Outside, it was pouring. Nero sighed and stood up. Heading to the back of the cave, Nero sat down. Something pierced his butt. Letting out an adorable Kya! Nero jumped, rubbed his arse, and glared at whatever he sat on. A shining piece of rock with a start carved in it. A dreamvisitor?
Shrugging, Nero tucked the dreamvisitor into his pocket and fell asleep with the pidder padder of rain comforting him.
---
"Oh look, The rain has stopped." Nero carefully made his way around the big puddles of water and stopped. He and Oliver had reached the end of the biome. The biome was a mesa biome, with mountains of brown, yellow, and orange. lots of dead bushes, and a few open caves. Nero took one step into the biome and was blasted by the fucking freezing temperature. We're so close! Taking a deep breath, Nero picked up Oliver, and sonic sped through the biome. After ten minutes, Nero ran faster, and faster, and faster, until he crashed into something.
"Ow!" A large yell startled him.
"What the-" Nero stammered, and fell to the ground. Shaking his head, Nero stared at the thing the crashed into him. It was a boy. Alive, Human (?), and wearing a big chicken mask. He wore a white suit, and he looked like a mess. He was covered in scratches and was bleeding just a little.
"H-hello? I'm so sorry! Here, let me help you," Nero stammered, scrambled to his feet, and tried to pull the boy onto his feet. He didn't talk a lot but curiously stared at Nero. "Fascinating..." he murmured. He walked around Nero, muttering to himself. "Skin particles fading, Transparent, faded on the bottom, I've never seen a furry like this before..."
"A-Actually, Im an octoling... a ghost octoling." Nero blushed. He didn't like being called a furry.
"An octoling with a tail. Fascinating! My name is Chimkin!" The boy held out his hand.
"Nero, charmed." Slowly, Nero took Chimkin's hand, still holding onto Oliver.
"So tell me, Nero. What are you doing in the mesa biome?" Chimkin raised an eyebrow.
"Well, you see, I'm trying to get home." Nero sighed, then told Chimkin everything he went through after he died. Chimkin listened, like a good person, very politely, and when he finished, He nodded, "Sounds like you've been through a lot."
"Anyway, what about you?" Nero scratched Oliver's head.
"Tested on by mad scientist, gained superpowers, ran into you on escape," Chimkin said.
So carefree! "U-uh, do you have anywhere to go?"
"No."
"Um, want to come with me? Im trying to find my home, Rendenburg."
Chimkin shrugged, "Sure!"
"Alright," Nero turned to the sunset, his "compass", "Shall we?"
Chimkin smiled, "We shall." And together they made their way through the mesa biome.
