"Don't." He demanded, briefly sending over a look that could be interpreted as a glare which made her stiffen up, wondering if she did something wrong to make him upset. This in turn made herself upset as she furrowed her eyebrows and gave him a questionable look before releasing the pressure and returning her hand to her lap.

"Huh-- don't? I was just going to return to our room."

Xiao remained silent, not saying anything which made the atmosphere really awkward. [ Name ] continued to stare questionably, waiting for a response, and she couldn't help but notice the way his Adam's apple bobbed as he nervously swallowed.

"...you can lay down here."

She almost didn't comprehend it at first, but within the dead of night she managed to hear the words as it repeated in her head over and over. He made no motion as to what he was suggesting making her tilt her head and let out a noise of confusion.

"Huh?"

She watched as he lifted his hand from its resting spot on the ground and brought it towards him, the motion quick as he spoke in sync with the movement,

"Look, I'm not going to say it again."

He lightly tapped his thigh before moving his hand away and continued to look straight ahead, shifting slightly as he moved a bit backwards to allow for more room.

Now [ Name ] was the one to swallow nervously as her eyes widened at the initial shock, though they were quick to go back to its neutral position as she nodded her head in understanding. The whole vibe around the two felt like a bubbly soda about to spill from its cup, their movements tense as if this were a first date despite their familiarity.

"Thank you, Xiao. I guess the travel would have been less than optimal."

She stared at his lap and her heart rate seemed to speed up before she inched closer to him, the two already pretty close before but now they were shoulder to shoulder.

"Then, if you don't mind..."

She moved her head downwards, the back of her head facing Xiao making him shift his attention to her briefly as he watched her descend. Her head made contact with his thighs quickly, the breath he was holding being released when feeling the pressure which caused his attention to return to looking off into the distance. She made herself comfortable and stared upwards, carefully maneuvering her leg to avoid touching the wound against the ground.

The first immediate thought she had when she found herself in a comfortable position was that he smelled minty. It wasn't a rancid mint that felt overwhelming like brushing your teeth first thing in the morning, but it was calming. His lap was surprisingly warm and much comfier than any pillow she's ever used, though she wouldn't voice that thought out loud as she shamefully winced at the thought of using him as a pillow regularly.

She looked up at him, her lidded eyes never once connecting with his own as he avoided her attention, and the thought that made her double take all her thoughts on the boy arose.

He looked enchanting.

Her eyes widened slightly, and she scanned everything about him as if looking for proof to back up this sudden thought that stemmed from nowhere.

The soft strands of Xiao's hair that she resisted the urge to run her fingers through was right above her, and she can see a lot more of the teal at this angle. His eyes were outlined with a red liner that clashed with his golden irises, and underneath them was a tint of pink that softened his light skin a perplexing color. His stomach would be pressed right against her face if she moved her head-- she couldn't help but pinpoint every little detail about him and what-if scenarios that would happen if she shifted her position in one way or another.

They were both exhausted from hours of fighting which led to this moment, but she couldn't point out any visible flaw or sign of exhaustion or irritation from him. That was biased however as an outsider would easily be able to, but when shrouded with so much care for another she tended to overlook the negatives.

Xiao's thoughts raced as he kept his attention on everything but her, while her thoughts were in a similar state. She couldn't help but think that maybe returning to the inn would have been better, because for whatever reason she was now very flustered and restless-- opposite of what this was supposed to entail.

Nevertheless, she bit back a smile and shifted her head around to make herself more comfortable, deciding to enjoy the tranquil moment the two shared, the action causing Xiao to jolt, though neither of them mentioned it. If only she knew that every little movement she made and gaze she passed by him made his heart skyrocket and stomach flutter with nausea.

"The faster I kill these things... the faster I can return." [ Name ] mumbled hopefully as her hand shakily focused as much energy as she possibly could into the palm of her hand, going beyond her limit for the day to will her weapon into existence the moment she spotted her next target from her peripheral vision.

Though that statement wasn't a guarantee, it was a way to cope with being thrust into a new environment. By setting a goal, she could distract herself with an optimistic hope that this baseless quest would be rewarding. There were no promises that after all the demons here were wiped out, she would return, but she would use this as motivation to rid the world of this unprecedented evil and wipe that off the list of theories on how to return home-- if at all possible.
