Fear comes with long nights

Start from the beginning

"If you go in there, everyone will know you're not a demon." She whispered to him trying to reason with him, but there was very little she could do to reason with a Red Dragon who just wanted to reach his match.

'Match'. She knew it wasn't the rights moment but she couldn't help but beam amused.

Anyway, luckily, before Kongpob could do anything stupid, Arthit had reached them and thrown himself into his arms.

The dragon just stood there, shaking lightly, staring down at the human. His eyes searched his face as his hand cupped his soft cheek and tilted his head back.

He needed to know that he was going to be alright. He touched the deep cut on his left temple and the one in his dark hair near it. There was a tear in the left arm of his long-sleeve top too, revealing a gash beneath it and black bruising. He tried to be gentle as he checked his arm, pressing in to feel the bone and see whether he had broken it.

Just bruised.

He breathed a sigh of relief and swept his fingers through his hair, squinting as he used the fading light to check the cut there and the one on his temple. They were already healing. In a day or two, they would be gone.

Then suddenly something snapped in him. And in that moment, he pulled down the other's shirt to reveal Arthit's seal on his shoulder. It was still there.

"What the hell happened?" He growled, grabbing the boy's shoulder and shaking him until his teeth chattered in his head.

"The Faceless attacked us." The latter answered calmly. He didn't seem surprised or at all worried about his reaction.

Wait, the Faceless?

"What? How?" The female dragon couldn't help but ask.

The faceless were what then became demons. Yet it was strange there where that many up there. Usually, those shadows existed only in the underworld world, never setting foot on earth.

Little Thing hesitated for a moment and then shrugged. "We don't know yet. They attacked from West. Luckily, we were able to keep most of them there, so they didn't get to the heart of the village."

Yeah, there weren't many houses on that side of the village. But that was not the point.

"That's not what I meant! Why didn't you sum-"

"Where the fuck were you?" Suddenly Kongpob felt himself being pushed and he lost his grip on Arthit.

His gaze darted to the intruder. Now was not a good time to test his patience. Especially if you had Little Thing's scent on yourself.

Every sense screaming at him that the human in front of him was the one Little Thing had chosen.

He took a deep breath to calm himself. It didn't matter. That was what he had planned since the beginning anyway. So yeah, he didn't care.

But then the reckless human touched Little Thing. It was nothing special, just a touch on his arm. And yet something snapped in him. Bright, brittle anger lanced through him, and his eyes turned gold. However, before he could even take a step forward, Wad appeared in front of him.

"Do not even think about it." The Wolf sounded threatening, but not for him.

Kongpob's eyes snapped on him as he growled menacingly. The two familiars looked at each other, ready to attack at any moment now.

"Kong..." Little Thing gripped his arm, tugging gently to get his attention.

Seeing that neither of them was giving up, Arthit turned to the other human to seek his help. But before he could touch him, Kongpob grabbed his arm and yanked him hard towards himself, keeping him out of Prem's reach.
